Default Android bluetooth boost gauge - 03-06-2013, 10:21 PM

Whipped this up in a few hours with a microcontoller, some ICs and my Nexus 7. Looks great with my phone mounted on the windshield but I needed that to film with. I really need to get a JB4 so I can make a full fledged android app!

Do tell more :-0) Can I get a kick-start android app?
I have the nexus 7, USART to BT module and an STM32F3 on a corner of my desk for some time now! As always being badly short of free time I have not managed to get the parts out of the wrap!!! Have the same intention to push data into the Nexus and I can do all the low level microcontroller stuff yet I will have to learn (time more time) the Android interface. Getting a sample that opens the stream of data and displays it as you do can help a lot.

Where are you getting the boost signal from? If its via OBDII you wont be able to use it with the JB4 as it doesnt allow OBDII connectivity while the JB4 is in any map other than 0.

Boost signal is simply coming in as a raw analog signal from the sensor as I don't have a tune. If I can get my hands on a JB4 all that would be needed hardware wise is a TTL bluetooth module that could simply be plugged into the db9 port the jb4s usb normally plugs into. I'm new to android development too but I seem to be getting the hang of it.

iOS is harder to deal with bluetooth wise so it would have to be a wifi module which would require quite a bit more development.

If I had a JB4 I could easily make it display any parameter it logs (AFR, advance, PWM, trims, etc..) and log them.

Who all would be interested in this and how much would you be willing to pay for a full fledged JB4 app?

I think you're fishing for a JB4 aren't you

I would be interested, and that depends on what it does:
-snapshot logging for selected parameters like the JB4 interface
-realtime trace/display of those values it would add functionality over the JB4 interface
-interface with JB4 code reading abilities
-modify values in the JB4

I don't think there is a single piggyback, or standalone for that matter, with this type of functionality currently. It would probably look great on a resume, and if you could pull it off I bet you could work out a deal to sell the module and app, I'd happily pay $100 for this level of integration (I've spent that on a bluetooth headset). I hate lugging around my laptop.

I wouldn't mind a free JB4 . To be fair it would only add to the JB4's feature set and I probably wouldn't price the App and hardware beyond ~$50 total which is kinda a steal for a unique product. As for features all of the above you mentioned seem viable but the log graphing would taking a few versions for it to be added. I think this would be incredibly useful for taking quick logs and sending them off to terry directly from your phone.

I would buy a JB4 app for IOS/android. Logging is great real time even better. Cop spotter mapping gps and escort radar detector integration and I would pay 100 bucks.
I use the escort blue tooth app now it is great like social networking for spotting cops.

A checkbox list of parameters, followed by a start/stop button, and display results would get my $50, the rest would also be cool.

It would be useful to launch an app to check coolant temps, iat etc rather than navigating menus and swapping out the hijacked gauges. Even without real-time logging display, current conditions like you're already doing would be very useful.

Somebody else was working on something similar and had finished the windows version. I've been waiting for the Android version and had also mentioned bluetooth compatibility. Would gladly pay the $50 for similar functionality to this app and bluetooth. You might want to check his thread out.

Doesn't seem like there's enough interest for me to bother pursuing this.

I would pay $75 easily for a bluetooth dongle and app that let me log the JB4 without running the stupid cable through my window every time, which they don't let me do on the strip.
