N54 turbo blanket?? -
05-23-2019, 05:29 AM
So I was thinking on these to go along with the silicone vsrf outlets I got.
Anyone have any experience with these blankets for the twins?

Not sure about that one but I have a blanket on a different turbo car and I love it.
Take a look at that auction I think it's only for 1 blanket.

Let us know how the VRSF outlet fitment goes. (I believe) there's been a poor history there.
RB Inlets/Outlets have the best reviews and fitment for a long time running.
Regarding the blanket, I'm curious on just how much effect this has on our twins.
I'm also wondering, if while there is less heat making it to the cold side, if the extra heat retention cooks our bearings sooner.
Following this thread out of curiosity. Wishing the best for you.

Will do, I ordered RB inlets, those just arrived. I may just get some header wrap and put it around the parts that are close to the manifold.
These are the silicone vsrf outlets I get, not the aluminum ones

You kinda got me worried about the bearings taking a crap with the extra heat with the already problematic oil return

What's problematic about the oil return?

Not as efficient as a top mount.
They seem to spring a leak, get clogged etc
Along with oil seals in turbo

To be fair, I'm just curious. I have no experience or research on turbo blankets.
I'm in the theoretical stage myself.
Their hot. Keep that heat from the cold side, it'll get hotter. Maybe the turbos don't care on the hot side.
For my short exposure, the turbos seem to have a shorter life span, particularly when pushed hard.
I've no idea why there aren't offerings for improved oil and coolant flow under heavy load.
It seems logical to me. Keep them at a good temp, just like BMW does so much to keep the engine at the ideal temp for the current driving conditions.
The whole N54 community doesn't appear to think there's any value to keeping your turbos happy. Just cool the air after them...

Off memory a guy used something similar on his set of hybrids- don’t think he mentioned it made much of any difference tbh

Thank you for your input. I'm getting ready to tapping the pcv ports in the head, install inlets and outlets, and remove down ***** to inspect for failed oil seals. Will get back with what I decide to do. Possibly wrap the exhaust manifolds

Difference in what?
My main purpose of it was to keep underhood temps down and it was very successful in doing that in my application.

Received my vrsf outlets. They actually are the aluminum outlets. The quality is top notch! The collector is smooth with no slag or rough edges. Tig welds are AAA quality. So anyone skeptical should rest assured.
