Default I never learned to read! please help - 06-05-2019, 07:17 PM

Ashamed to admit that I can't read my spark plugs and don't know what they are trying to tell me. Can you guys take a look and tell me what has been going on inside cylinder 1?

These plugs have about about 21,000 miles on them, 4,000 of those miles tuned, and 3,000 of those miles on E32 at 18psi. I have been having problems at higher boost levels with cylinder 1 misfires. The spark plug from cylinder 1 looked much worse than the other plugs.

1st picture is the cylinder 1 plug
2nd picture is what the other plugs looked like on average
3rd picture is a side by side comparison of the 2 plugs
4th picture is a brand new stock Bosch plug for reference

Looks like your running lean. Have you logged your lpfp and hpfp?

Yes, the LPFP has been above 5 and the HPFP has been higher than 11 the whole time. AFR has been pretty good, dropping to about 12.5 near redline and the trims have never been maxed out. With E32, trims and LPFP has been close to the limit but never exceeding them, with AFR looking real good the whole time.

I do have this weird JB4 safety that comes up for AFR. When I have the traction control on and hit it real hard down low, if the car has a lot of traction before the tires spin up, the AFR safety kicks in and I get the 2 hazard lights flash and then it switches to map 4. Only happens when the traction control is activated in 1st or 2nd gear.

In the default setting, which cylinder is monitored for timing in the logs?

I don't have any logs of the AFR safety events as that is very rare. Only happened 3 or 4 times in the last 5 months.

Here is a normal run with the car on E34.

Hey few things-

Enable 6 cyl timing

I have a feeling your going lean, when trims max.

Do you have the BEF ?

I am installing the "pump" BEF as we speak. I'll enable 6 cylinder timing, log, and post it up here after.
