Well as it seems as my posts aren't ever answered by the powers that be I'm ripping this thing out. Been running MAP 0 and it still throws codes and the "half engine" reduced power mode light comes on randomly.

Anyone want a slightly used JB4? I'll sell it cheap.

If you're in need of individual tech support you can always email in also. We're not able to monitor and reply to every thread on the forum.

If you have older DME software you should definitely update it. Did leaving MAP connection stock resolve the issue for you?

This entire thread is full of people experiencing the same issue. If you want each of them to email in that would be less productive. Understandably you guys are busy but currently you're selling a tuning solution that throws CELs even with unmodified emissions systems.

Exactly. The only way I could fix it was enabling auto-clear, which I would prefer to not do.

There are literally 1000s E series N55 JB4s out in use... and a handful of people in the thread going back to 2018 reporting this 3166 code.

Happy to continue working with you to resolve your cars issue but it's something specific to those few cars triggering it.

Scrolled back a bit and the latest test was to revert MAP sensor to stock to evaluate. And the result of that test was?

With stock MAP connected, I am happy to report that with menu 10 at 1800 and menu 12 at 2000, 28A0 code has not appeared in the past 2 weeks. Still get 2c90 but have always had that (for years) and it doesn't trigger the dash check engine light.

So if you connected the stock MAP, make sure to check your menu 10 and 12 settings.

Something strange happened to me with this error 3166. 3 weeks ago I decided to drive the car on map 0. I was driving so one day and then for three weeks this error did not appear but before it went out every third start of the car with SES lamp.

I found a fix to all the code problems. About six weeks ago I completely removed the entire JB4 to pass state inspection. I haven’t had a single code since then.

Stock MAP same result as reported random CEL with sometimes half engine light. Car is fine now that I took out the harness. Haven't had a half engine light in 6 weeks. I really wanted this to work but could never get the readiness settings to stay on so just wasn't going to pass smog check. JB4 and BT Connect is for sale on Ebay if anyone wants to give it a go. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I loaded the PUMP_BEF last week (now that you don't have to remove and bench flash the DME to load MHD anymore) and have driven about 150 miles on map5. The 3166 code has not occurred once since I've been running the BEF!

I found this thread searching for a solution to my SES with code 3166. Seems like a lot of troubleshooting steps. Has anyone found a definitive solution to this code? I have a stock (other than JB4) 2013 E92. The code does not show up in map 0, but does in map 1.

BEF takes care of it. Worth doing for many other reasons as well.

I lived through this and posted in this thread. Solution seems to have been to put the MAP sensor back to stock (no JB4 harness to MAP sensor).

Do you have a current JB4 system or did you buy used? An older harness will have the MAP sensor on it but a new one won't.

I purchased it from a BMW tuner (who also installed it) about two years ago, so I'm not sure. Is there a diagram somewhere that would show me?

Thanks. Sorry for the noob question, but I am not sure what BEF is, and the search won't accept that term because it's too short! Where can I find info on the BEF?

Ugh, I hate the search on this forum. Tip: search google with "site:n54tech.com"

BEF is back end flash. More information can be found here

BEF (back end flash) is an upload flash to your car's engine computer (the DME). It reprograms the main computer with new fueling, timing, and many control tables that make the thing run at higher perfomance levels, closer to what the JB4 is fooling a stock DME into doing. The idea is to get the DME to do more with its own program instead of relying on highly hijacked and massaged signals from the JB4.

BEF will probably not get you much on a stock car, as yours is, but others can chime in on this. You will also need to get the N55 MHD Flasher and run that through an Android device in order to to the BEF upload.

Did you get all that? Just wait until you start fine tuning all of it.

Google MHD and OTS maps as well. You'll need to invest some time into educating yourself before investing more in your car to really get the most out of it.
