*just finished eating breakfast in the engine bay*

My drivetrain problems were mainly due to my lowered ride height and CV boots tearings, then when installing some aftermarket CVs they were not seating properly (due to being low). I decided to give a AWD-RWD conversion a shot by removing the CVs, F Diff, and F Driveshaft, transfer case was left in place. I removed AWD from the vehicle Order and also unplugged the actuator for the TC.

Car was operational and traction control would work when breaking the tires loose at speed in 1st or 2nd (and let the tires spin when off) but the ultimate test was to do a traditional stationary burn out. Doing so made something go BOOM and there definitely was a mechanical failure, I am just not sure if it was the trans, TC, or E-diff. I am having a hard time connecting the dots on how the DXC would trigger such a catastrophic failure. During the burnout I wasn't slapping the rev-limiter and smoking people out, rather the rear tires were just starting to spin and revs were maybe around 4,000rpm.

I have not had time to investigate as A) I am on vacation and B) my buddies FFTEC E90 is still a garage queen while some more goodies arrive.

Subscribed. Just picked up an 08 e60. Was looking for options. Thank you for this. Would you be interested in selling your first set up? I liked the first version with the flat filter. Also did you figure out the A/C line?

Replacing my turbos with VTT OEM replacements for now. Would love to do this when re installing.

Bump for the question above or a complete parts list, please. I blazed through this thread while at work and looking over my shoulder but I didn't see if there was a consolidated price on the final design. Someone local is selling an MMP inlet for $18 but I don't know if it'll fit an E61 and/or if doing this homemade setup would be cheaper.

This inlet system was not cheap, parts alone were nearly $400.
Fabrication was also required to get the system fully assembled.

I like worm drive. They are less likely to pinch and create as possible boost leak plus they take up less space and can fit into tighter areas. A quality worm drive is capable of holding a lot of boost.

Amazing build. Where did you get the tiny beefy coolant system clamps ? Did you just use heater hose to replace the stock rubber ?

Don't remember where I got the clamps, I might state that in the thread. Yes, on heater hose.

Ever have your rear inlet pop off the turbo/come half off?

No, the piping is aligned correctly and the snout of the 90 degree coupler is long enough it can't back off since the firewall is so close. I don't use a clamp and you shouldn't need to with proper alignment/fitment.

I have the VRSF ones and I noticed mine popped off when I went to remove the turbos. I noticed mine are straight after that 90 degree elbow and don't seem to account for the fact the turbos are recessed to the part where the engine meets the trans. I don't think RB inlets have that problem. I googled it and found a few other people had their VRSF inlet pop off. I cleaned it and all but couldnt get the thing clamped on the turbo good enough for me, so I made a turbo flange extender to give a longer lip to clamp on to/be free from dealing with the wastegate interfering with the hose clamp screw body. Now I know the thing won't fall off, I was shocked when I saw it off the first time, its not easily visible on the 535i

so since my water pump is leaking, iím starting this project. well at least the relocation of the expansion tank. went thru the thread a few times, did you use new coolant hose on the bottom as well as the top hose on the expansion tank or just the top? also were you able to align the top mount where it is bolted (near power steering res.) or was that remounted some way? thereís a lot of pics so I got lost a little. love this thread and your work on the e60 platform that always gets ignored in the whole n54 scene.

Yes, I bought some extra coolant hose to connect things.

I don't really follow your questions about aligning the top mount where it is bolted?
