Default Will my Pure turbos rattle too? - 12-21-2016, 12:50 PM

I was wondering, since they are stock frame and everything.

Will they get WG rattle like the OEM ones?

All vacuum based N54 twin turbo options can rattle. It simply depends on how you have the JB4 or MHD values set. Vacuum based systems hang the wastegate open when not under load. Most late model turbo cars are setup this way. For example, brand new OE turbos on a S63tu can rattle. You just don't hear it until you install aftermarket DP's. One theory is that the catalyst core dampens the exhaust pulses, and aftermarket DP's allow higher velocity exhaust signals when not under load, possibly. Anyways, for your N54, set the default wastegate position settings so that the WG valve is not vibrating, when not under load. We have visited this topic many times, and all cases I can remember were solved with tuning settings. I hope that makes some sense for you.

My 3 months old pure turbo's rattle like crazy with mhd rattle fix at 0%, had to run it that way because it was surging. Kitless dp's and pe make it even worse. But now with the surging problem fixed and mhd rattle fix unchecked i am in love with te sound of my car! Pure turbo's with pe and kitless dp's sound brutal, and no metallic rattle or strange noises what so ever for the first time in 2 years.

So in my case it just depends on the settings

We run Torco and sometimes Motul oil in the factory viscosity. The OE BMW oil, castrol, and mobil, are pretty low quality. Works fine, but we prefer something better. Cheap insurance...
