Default Need help cc id 29 and limp mode logs inside - 04-06-2015, 08:18 PM

I have been getting this random limp mode cel cc id 29 on dash and on jb4 2c58. I guess they are the same since they were only codes showing on car. I did a little research on the cc id and seems to be lpfp. Can you see that in logs? I attached some in hopes that was it. I am out of warranty, but is there a recall regarding these pumps?

150406_1952 is when CEL and limp mode happened

Your HPFP looks to be doing fine in those logs. There is no way to monitor the LPFP pressures as the N55 does not have an LPFP sensor.

What codes does the JB4 show when you go in to limp mode?

Logs look pretty good but your turbos are max'd out!

2C58 looks to be "Charge-air pressure control,
deactivation: charge-air pressure buildup disabled"

This sounds like it's the equivalent of a 3100 error on the N54 and is usually caused by a different error and just signifies you've gone in to limp mode. Any other codes?

Need more info...a search turns up a possible issue with the Vanos...you'll need to research it more or at least use a scan tool to get more info.

at about 16 secs in on log 150406_1952 you see the iat jump up and the fuel pump readings as well. Something happened, but I can't tell what it is. The meth flow is the same so the iat should've kept dropping.

You're an N55...that FP L means nothing.

As for the jump and flatlining IAT's, no idea.

You may want to take it to a BMW dealer to get scanned. Not sure if a generic scan tool will do the trick...but can't hurt to go to your local autoparts store and try.

P00BD - Mass or Volume Air Flow 'A' Circuit Range/Performance - Air Flow Too High
P007B - Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit Cooler (Bank 1)

Haven't seen this before...does it do it if meth is disabled?

I haven't turned meth off since installing it. It only seems to do it at low speed pulls with dtc on.

Have you tried re-seating the connection on your MAP sensor in the CP? That'd be where I'd start since you got that error description and your IAT's jumped up to 13.89 and flatlined.

Thanks steve. I thought about just uninstalling the whole jb4 unit and reinstalling, but its been working fine since initial install. I will get up earlier tomorrow and look at it. NOthing has changed for me as in parts or setup for the last 4-5 months. I think something is failing, but I cant tell what. Seems to be either a FP or sensor. Its sporadic and never right in a row. Seems to happen then I can do back to back pulls for awhile before happening again. I am going to look through the rest of these codes if the sheet will open properly. Thanks for all your input man.

I have yet to see any indication of issues with your fuel system.

Other than the EKP that controls flows via the PWM (and not while WOT), your car has a "pulse generator" and a rail sensor...in addition I have yet to see anything in the logs that indicate HPFP...or LPFP.

However as I said your IAT's flatlined mid pull....

Just sayin...

English Steve :-) Some of if seems to relate to a wiring issue, DME and harness seem to have some issues, maybe a plug is loose or bad connection, melted wire? ;-) I'll dig into tomorrow if I have some time.

I see what you mean...and it wouldn't be a bad idea to disconnect the battery and re-seat the connections to the JB4/DME. That is also what I was suggesting for the MAP sensor in the CP as there could be a poor connection, corrosion, moisture.... That was more directed at the source because of the error and what we saw in the log. Nothing else seemed to be affected. The whole cause and affect thing can be difficult sometimes. Kind of like a misfire (say bad injector) and it shuts down injection system and then you get a whole bunch of misfires, a 29DC...blah blah, blah...so people (including dealers) replace the LPFP or HPFP and the next thing you know the car is lemon law'd.

Well I pulled the map sensor out cleaned it and reinstalled. Checked a few connections and they were good. Tomorrow I'll pull the cowl off and check the ff wires and the jb4 module connections and wires. I haven't tried any pulls lately I hate when it goes into limp mode

I've also gotten the CC-ID 29 a few random times and after WOT for 10+ seconds. I just installed the JB4 and read the codes after it happened last and it said 2A87 which is the vanos solenoid on the exhaust side. I cleaned them and swapped them. So if it happens again, it will follow the solenoid if thats the culprit. I also cleaned the vanos check valves. Just thought I'd share since I saw this when I was looking before.
