Default JB4 tune in B48 530e - 09-14-2017, 11:41 AM

I am a longtime n54 platform JB4 user, interested in the G30 B48 530e. The 530e seems to have a unique BMW ECU tune of the B48 outputting 181 hp and 240 lb-ft torque (this is much lower than most implementations of this engine, I believe lowered by BMW so as to not outpace the 530i when hybrid motor is engaged). I have a few questions regarding the JB4 and the B48 as used in the 530e:
  1. Does the tune interact with the electronic dash used in the 530e?
  2. Any experience/thoughts on interaction with hybrid electric motor assist?
  3. What kind of power can be expected from a stock engine setup with JB4? (Keep in mind the 530e starts with less output than the 248 hp and 258 lb-ft torque found in the current 230i, 330i, and 530i)
  4. Can the tune be used with autotune and e85 mix with an ethanol sensor? What is the expected output?
Thanks in advance!

The JB4 is compatible, as is our B48 Stage1. No idea on E85 mixtures, etc. You'd need to log the JB4 after installing so we can work with you on that.

Thanks Terry. Do you know whether the JB4 increase flat across the different BMW B48 implementations, or does it result in different performance out of each implementation?

Map1 and map2 are additive maps, adding to the stock profile. While map6 can be used in an "absolute" format to fix a boost profile.

Do you feel the difference between the different B48 implementations is just boost?

  • 181 hp and 240 lb-ft torque version used in G30 530e

  • 255 hp and 295 lb-ft torque version used in G11 740e
Or are there also differences in the engine/exhaust parts and/or ECU maps?

I just received my G30 530e with M-Sport ZMP (dynamic damper), M-Sport 337 (aero, trim, wheels), and M-Sport 2NH (brakes), and a bunch of other options that likely do not have any possible impact on performance. I also do not believe any of the M-Sport options impact the intake or exhaust based on the parts diagrams I have looked at, but most people don't seem to know for sure, and I can always be hopeful.

I am going to be trying out some upgrades, and will let you know the outcome. I'm not expecting a miracle gain, just hoping to make the engine a bit more fun. I am also curious about what looks like a lot of potential tied up in the engine based on BMW's tune (stock B48 variations of 74hp and 81 lb-ft of torque).

Throw the JB+ on, it's a fun mod and easy to install and remove to test out.

Hey Terry, are you guys working on the 530e at all? Curious to see if you can get more power out of these things as well as opening the exhaust flap as it seems the 530e keeps the flap closed all the time.
