Hi guys, I just picked up a show room condition
2009 335xi 140,000 km. The old owner installed a JB4.
Is there a way to totally disable the jb4 system? Iím a diesel mechanic
By trade but in sure whether or not the jb4 will interfere with
The trouble shooting.

I used a cheap code reader and itís misfiring on 2&5 runs rough, smells like fuel inside the car, outside the car, and out of the exhaust *****.. it was stores for the winter, and the problem started upon start up.

He had the Coils and plugs changed last week and apparently it made the symptoms worse. He did give me the old coils and plugs..
I assume itís fuel injector issues or fuel related.

what diagnostic software would you recommend to purchase? I have the USB OBD cable and cables for an android device..

Thanks in advance for the help

Pulling the plugs one by one and seeing if they smell like gas is a good way. They'll often be fouled a bit too. Did you guy label the old plugs by cylinder? If all the injectors are fairly old and at that mileage might as well do them all.

With new firmware, the JB4 will temporarily allow pass-through when you attach anything to ODB2 port like a scanner, or you can switch it to Map 0 manually through the steering wheel controls. It won't be totally disabled unless you remove it though.

I think 9 is regarded as the worst revision. You are a diesel mechanic so I don't think I need to tell you to put in brand new OEM injectors and not mess with anything used and refurbished. Pretend you are working on an LB7

True enough, I have 2 boxes full of test injectors
But nothing for a 335.. I will purchase 6 new revised oem ones
Ones once I know for sure the injectors are bad in the 2 cylinders with the misfires..

Don't forget to code the injectors...you need a bavarian technic cable and there is a good YT video on how to do it.

Also, if it smells like gas in and out of the car, take out the rear seat and check the top of the fuel sender bucket for standing fuel. They get old, cracks develop in the plastic and some gas seeps out. I had the same issue last year on my 2007 (that I've had since new) and replaced it.

Update- i removed all the fuel injectors, disconnected
The electrical connections, and the suspected misfire
On 2&5 are leaking injectors. 5- had the odd drop of fuel, #2
Was squirting like a garden hose. The rest of the injectors had zero leakage.
Now to shop for injectors 😱

Final update..

I changed the engine oil and filter, installed 2 working used injectors
Index 9.. I checked all injector coding, and not one injector was coded
Properly.. recoded them all, cleared all codes and now it purrs like a kitten..
Now that I know all is good, I will be sourcing out some index 12
Injectors.. does anyone know a good reliable source for injector purchase?

Thanks for the help

I'd go FCP Euro, lifetime guarantee is worth it at the price they sell for these days.

Curious,
Are you still running the two Index 9 Injectors?
If so, how are they doing for you?
I'm assuming you bought them off Amazon or equivalent, where they have no metal caps on them? (used/rebuilt)
