Default N55 E85 Logs - 09-10-2017, 01:30 PM

Attached is a log from my first pull on E30. Boost seems kind of high to me for not having a kittenless d0wnpipe. Do things look good and/or are there any settings I should change? I'm on the latest ISO firmware with FF wires.

A few minor timing corrections, not bad. map 5 may learn down a bit if those continue.

Log a run on map 2 and see how that looks.

Just installed VRSF d0wnpipe last night and took a log of another map 5 pull. Timing corrections seem to have been smoothed out. Does everything else look good?

Looks pretty good to me but I'd increase FOL to 90.

Increased to FOL to 90 and did another pull. Seems like there was a big bump in low end torque. How does the log look?

Hi Folks. Very happy to be here. I have been a Subaru Impreza Turbo owner for a very long time. I'm changing to a BMW 335i Auto Touring when I can find the right unmolested car here in the UK. My question is this.....I intend to run an N54 auto and take a standard car to around 450/500bhp engine output. I have access to 97/98 octane fuel here in the UK from a few petrol stations. I notice several JBs and addons . What JB is the most suitable for the car I intend to purchase and what accompanying addons will I need along the way in achieving my goal with reliability? The car will not be raced or used in any competion. I'm retired, getting on a little but still a confirmed petrol head. Basically I need a plan but that plan starts with a sound car and the right initial tuning box to get me going.

I think it is impossible to get an N54 to 450-500whp without upgrading the turbos. FBO you'll be looking around the 420whp mark and over 450 trq (which is still extremely quick). That being said, if you're buying an N54 and want a JB4 buy the full N54 unit that sells for around $500 USD if you want to fully utilize everything BMS has to offer. There are other tuning options such as MHD that are a lot simpler (allows you to flash the car via an Android device). It all depends on what you want and what you'll be using the car for (DD, weekend car, etc.). I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have here, but I suggest you make your own forum post so more people can see it and give you advice.

Looks pretty normal...not a lot left in that turbo.

@Peter, best to start your own thread. Start with the N54 JB4, data cable, and go from there.

450-500bhp without a turbo upgrade...no problem with the correct supporting mods and fuel. 500whp...that's another story.

Great. My goal is to max out the stock turbo. If you had to guess how much power do you think I am making on this setup? Is there anything else I should add (BEF, Custom flash, Stage 2 LPFP, etc.) to get a bit more reliable power without touching the turbo?

Only 2 things make power....timing and boost. If turbo is maxed out and your timing is already at MBT, it only leaves the turbo.

I don't guesstimate power numbers, too many variables. Put it on a dyno and see.

What about upgrading the tdo3s too tdo4s. They spool up well at around 2500rpm and pump a fair bit more air or is single turbo the way to go?

Ok thank you for the information. So even a fueling upgrade to run E85 will not make much of a difference?

Interesting. So Im essentially maxed out on power with an E30 mix with my current mods unless I upgrade my turbo?

Pretty much. These turbos just aren't capable of much up top.

N55 problems . Only thing I can improve now is smoothness. I ordered a KTAG and am doing the benchflash myself so BEF is coming soon.

Just went out and did a few pulls after resetting my adaptations. Also threw in a map 2 log in there as well.

I want to work on setting map 6 based off of the map 5 boost values, because the car starts to feel sluggish after part throttle 3rd and 4th gear pulls from my commute as the week goes on. I plan on starting off by setting the map 6 RPM boost values about 0.5psi below what the actual boost value shows in the map 5 logs, but wanted to make sure everything looked good with map 5 before testing out map 6.

These look pretty solid. As Steve mentioned not much left in the turbo, but I’d think it would be safe to start messing with map 6 when you are ready.

Side note- thank you for taking solid logs

Great. I will post those for review once I get everything dialed in. I think PS1 is on the horizon.

Of course. Always easier for you guys when the logs are clean. I'm lucky to have a large stretch of clear, smooth pavement about 5 min from my home.

I would recommend going straight to PS2.

That's my ultimate goal, but this is my DD to get to and from school. I would have to do the supporting mods (LSD, Inlet, Etc.) all once, so time to start saving.

Just went out and filled up on E40, reset adaptations, did a few map 5 learning pulls (included below), and made a map 6 profile based on the following values:

RPM-Boost(PSI)
1500-9.0
2000-10.0
2500-13.8
3000-14.2
3500-15.2
4000-15.2
4500-15.6
5000-16.0
5500-15.0
6000-12.7
6500-11.6
7000-10.0

Thought everything looked good, but I was wondering if I have any room for improvement.

Map 6 looks solid. A little DB tuning will help you get all the potential out of the turbo but there isn't a whole lot left.

Great, this power level should hold me over for a while.

How should I adjust duty bias?

Side note: I just performed my own bench flash today and am ready to have a BEF loaded. Can't wait to have the smoothness everyone talks about. Is there a reason to have Terry, or another tuner, dial in a custom BEF or is the regular pump flash good enough?
