Exclamation YCW Reference Series Coilovers (Round 2 Testing) - From $1020 - 04-14-2016, 01:13 AM

Hey Guys,

now that the initial test sets from Round 1 have shipped out to the designated testers, we would like to start an open-list for Round 2 of testing.

although the feature list below is 100% confirmed, we may make some design changes (for the better) based upon the feedback we receive from the Round 1 testers. However, now that we have the majority of the development process complete, we can finalise pricing, fitments and options:

MSRP - $1699.95
Round 2 Test Price (40% Discount) - $1019.97
Deposit Required to be added to the production list - $500
Remainder (inc. any optional extras) due before shipment
ETA - July 2016 (this should allow us ample time to implement any design changes)

Fitments
E8X 1-Series
E46 3-Series
E46 M3
E9X 3-Series
E9X 3-Series xDrive
E9X M3

Options:
Inverted Dampers - $100/corner
Sports Spring Rates - ~50% stiffer than stock (balanced to oem F/R ratio. See feature list below for explanation)
Race/Drag Spring Rates - ~100% stiffer than stock (balanced to oem F/R ratio. See feature list below for explanation)
Custom Spring Rates (even rates, 4K-16K/224lb-896lb) - $50/corner, as we have to re-valve the dampers to match (we will not be held liable for upsetting the oem F/R ratio. Please note that the oem F/R ratio is 1:3)
Helper Springs - TBD
Shipping (via UPS Ground. Have to wait for our monthly container, so around 3-4 weeks additional) - FREE
Shipping (via UPS Express as soon they are ready, so around 2-3 days) - $150

Softest Setting

Hardest Setting

YCW Reference Series Coilovers
- Spec'd for Superior Performance
- Priced for Affordability
- Over-Engineered for Comfort & Safety

FEATURES:

Forged 6061-T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Front Upper Mounts
- Strong and Lightweight, our Forged Upper Mounts are Hard Anodised for superior Corrosion Resistance

Forged 6061-T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Rear Upper Mounts (Where Applicable)
- Strong and Lightweight, our Forged Upper Mounts are Hard Anodised for superior Corrosion Resistance

High-Tensile Carbon Steel Front Camber & Caster Plate with Anti-Slip Coating (MacPherson)
- CNC-Machined High-Tensile Carbon Steel supports more load than lesser-quality mounts
- Camber Angles can be adjusted precisely to your driving needs
- Caster Angles can also be fine tuned (MacPherson)

Oversized PTFE-Lined Japanese Spherical Upper Mount Bushing
- Increases shock articulation and prevents coil-bowing
- Higher load rating for increased durability
- Minimises knocking noise associated with lesser-quality bearings

Forged 6061-T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Upper Spring Perch with Sealed Japanese Radial Bearing
- Strong and Lightweight, our Forged Upper Spring Perches are Hard Anodised for superior Corrosion Resistance
- High Quality Sealed Japanese Radial Bearing removes rotational stress from the upper mount and is sealed from the elements

62mm ID Cold-Wound Japanese SAE 9254V Chrome-Silicon-Vanadium Steel Linear Springs
- Custom-made for us in Japan from the highest quality Japanese-grade spring steel, using proprietary manufacturing processes
- Not all springs are manufactured the same. Lesser-quality, Taiwanese-manufactured springs offer inferior performance and durability
- Although more expensive, we believe the increase in performance more than offsets the marginal increase in manufacturing costs

OEM-Balanced Spring Rates
- The majority of budget coilovers currently on the market offer default spring rates that deviate from the oem-balanced spring rates
- By not accounting for Motion Ratio Calculations and just replicating race-car setups, this results in a very unbalanced and uncomfortable ride on a Street Car
- All Reference Series Coilovers are supplied with oem-balanced spring rates, offering you increased performance without sacrificing ride comfort

62mm ID Cold-Wound Japanese SAE 9254 Chrome-Silicon Steel Helper Springs (Application Dependent)
- Optional Helper Springs can be used to increase droop travel

52mm OD Cold-Drawn Japanese SAE 1020 Seamless Carbon Steel Shock Body
- Offers superior physical properties and strength-to-weight ratio over lesser manufacturing processes

Black-Zinc Plated Fully-Threaded Shock Body with 250hrs of Salt-Spray Testing
- Offers superior corrosion-resistance

14mm OD or 20mm OD (MacPherson) Forged SAE 4140 Chromoly Steel Piston Rod
- Monotube shocks, although offering increased performance over Twintube shocks, have an inherent weakness; a load-bearing Piston Rod
- Although Inverted Monotube Shocks are touted as the solution, these come with their own set of problems, not least the substantially increased cost of manufacture (Optional: $100/corner)
- Our over-engineered solution to the problem, with only a marginal increase in manufacturing costs, is our proprietary Chromoly Steel Piston Rod
- Offering a substantial increase in tensile strength over lesser-quality rods, not only does this keep costs down, it significantly increases product safety

Oversized Piston Rod Guide
- A common issue with the majority of budget coilovers currently on the market is performance-sapping deflection and shaft-play, even after only limited usage
- Through the use of our proprietary Piston Rod Guide, this minimises deflection and shaft-play, allowing you to reap the performance benefits for a longer period of time

7-Level Rebound Adjustment
- Our Reference Series Coilovers allow 7 levels of Rebound Adjustments, allowing you to fine-tune your vehicle comfort and handling
- Unlike the majority of budget coilovers currently on the market, with their 30+ Level Adjustments, you can physically feel the difference between each adjustment
- In this particular case, more is not better; it's simply an inconvenience and setup-nightmare

10cm/15cm/20cm Length Adjustment Extenders (Optional)
- Designed for vehicle applications with limited access to their upper strut mounts

44mm OD Forged 7075-T6 Hard Anodised Aluminium Digressive-Blow-Off DBO Piston™
- Over-engineered for superior strength, with anti-stiction and anti-friction properties
- At lower shock speeds (Cornering), our DBO Piston™ maintains a higher damping force, offering increased responsiveness and stability
- At higher shock speeds (Bumps), our DBO Piston™ maintains a lower damping force, offering increased comfort and control

Performance Synthetic Damper Oil with High Viscosity Index and Proprietary Additives
- A proprietary formula providing consistent damping over a wide temperature range and superior anti-stiction/anti-friction properties

Viton Performance O-Rings
- Upgraded O-Rings offering better performance and durability than lesser-quality Rubber O-Rings

Forged 6061-T6 Hard Anodised Lower Spring Perch Locking Collar
- Strong and Lightweight, our Forged Locking Collars are Hard Anodised for superior Corrosion Resistance
- 1pc Locking Collars, providing secure and hassle-free adjustments

Fully-Threaded Forged 6061-T6 Hard Anodised or High-Tensile Carbon Steel Lower Mount
- Threaded Lower Mounts allows us to use a longer shock body for increased performance
- Shock Stroke is unaffected by Ride Height changes
- Allows an increased Height Adjustment range

PTFE-Lined Japanese Spherical Lower Mount Bushing (Eyelet Type. Optional)
- Increases shock articulation and prevents deflection
- Higher load rating for increased durability
- Minimises knocking noise associated with lesser-quality bearings

Silicone Lower Mount End Caps (MacPherson)
- High Quality Weather-Proof End Caps for MacPherson lower mounts, preventing water and dirt from entering the the lower shock body

Weather-proof Neoprene Shock Covers
- High Quality Weather-Proof Shock Covers, preventing water and dirt from clogging up the shock assembly

Fully Rebuildable
- Our Reference Series Coilovers are fully rebuildable, with spare parts always in stock and available for purchase

Just to make this point clear as a few people have brought this up:

If you are looking for a budget coilover, at budget pricing, these are NOT it. Our coilovers are targeted at the mid-range market with mid-range pricing (i.e KW, ST, Bilstein, Fortune Auto etc), but with some higher-end features. We completely redesigned these coilovers from scratch so as to differentiate them from most of the generic coilovers currently plaguing the market.

Although we may not be as well known or "tried and tested" yet, and fully understand that this will take time, as with any new company, we will try our utmost to achieve our goals with customer service our number 1 priority. Unfortunately, most consumers don't bother with the details, and judge a product based on only three things: Brand, Price, Country of Manufacture. It is what it is though, and is our job to prove these consumers wrong.

KW V1's are expensive "budget" coilovers; they are not even in the same league feature wise (not to say they are bad).

In terms of features, ours are more in line with their "mid-range" KW V2's.

What's up, so how many sets are out there? Because, I'm interested in eventually reading some type of review. My car is about to hit 80k miles and while I would like to replace arms, links, and tie rods initially. I am also researching coil over setups. An online store is selling an ST system for about $1k and also offers gift cards and rebates adding up to a decent discount. Forgive my straight forwardness but how well does your kit compare to that system at a lower price point.

Thanks

We have 6 sets currently shipped out to testers (various models, not just BMW E9X).

Depends on which ST model you are talking about. If it is their base model (which I'm guessing it is due to the price), then those are no different from the KW V1's.

Have you done any work to dial these in for an E88 1-series?

I've been scouring the forums and online sites for a decent set of coils for my E88. My goals/dream is to have sharp, crisp suspension that can handle back road transitions without being overly rough and jarring while taking the kids to school. The current OEM M-sport suspension has way too much slop and often times find the front bouncing out of a right->left transition while under decent acceleration. It's just too messy for me to feel confident.

Idealy I would like to drop the front 1/2" and keep the rear and OEM height (will balance the tire -> wheel arch gap). I may track my car every now and then but I think of my car more as a weekend "toy" that I drive almost daily because I can't bare to be out of it!

If possible, I would love to get in on the round 2 tests and help you guys come up with an ideal setup for an E88 because as far as I can tell, NO ONE has a true E88 setup except KW's V1 and getting a system that's dialed in for an E88 and has KW v2 level of features would be EPIC.

I have a credit card in hand, call me!

Just curious, how corrosion resistance is the coating? Steel body shock always worries me a bit for DD use in the Northeast and Midwest region. Stainless steel body would be nice, I think a lot of guys wouldn't mind a slight price increase for that features.

Other than that, these look great. Nice to see the adjustment actually do something for the low-speed damping, which is rare for shocks of this price range. Would be nice to see higher adjustability in the high speed as well.

The shock body is Zinc coated steel with 250hrs of salt spray testing. That's the main corrosion resistance, but we also have our lower end caps for the front lower mounts, which prevents any dirt/salt from going up the mount and into the threads. Lastly, we will also have our Neoprene (same material as scuba suits) shock covers which cover almost the entire shock assembly. These are water and dirt proof, and should help where the weather is not so great.

Whilst stainless steel would be nice, this significantly increases the cost of manufacture, and they are NOT corrosion-proof (as that certain company has found out on plenty of occasions). There are several ways to increase corrosion resistance that is better than Stainless steel. Again though, it comes down to cost...

Our main aim with our DBO Piston is to break-the-mold of 90% of the coilover market, and have something that offers the increased stability at low damper speeds, whilst increased comfort at high damper speeds. For the regular street car, having a higher adjustability for the higher damper speeds is not necessary, although I can understand a car more biased towards racing wanting an overall stiffer damper (hence why we will be offering our re-valving service)

We've still to fine-tune the height adjustability part, but we are aiming between 0-3"'s or thereabouts.
