Default no oil cooler, bad? - 05-24-2013, 03:37 PM

I have had my 09 335xi with sports package for a year now, and just recently realized I do not have an oil cooler?? I am truly saddened by this news, as I always thought I had one, and specifically got a sports pkg knowing it included this.

I run JB4 in map 1 right now, but am planning on **'s and FMIC this year. What are the drawbacks to not having the oil cooler? Should I consider getting one before anything else? I do not plan on doing much more than FMIC/** wiht JB4 as far as performance.

Also, this is an N55 engine, but this is what I am going off of in identifying I do not in fact have one... would an n54 possibly be different with this part? I do not have vents in my passenger wheel well either...

The n55 and n54 use the same housings and hoses. Just a diff pressure sensor. But the n54 likes to get hot quick. If you don't track or go wot consistently you probly be ok. Look in the diy section I did a custom setup.

Beat the crap out of my 07 335i with NO oil cooler. Had JB4, ********, FMIC, and BMS Intake, and never once tripped the oil over temp warning. This was all in the summer heat of Atlanta and Florida.

Like I said I floored the car constantly and never had an issue.

I think you need the "high speed tuning" option to get the oil cooler.

2011 135i N55 DCT
12.669 @ 112.90
2011 BMW 135i DCT N55: 12.669 @ 112.900 MPH
