Two new guy questions - Is there a "how to" for creating logs? Do I have to make a specific number of runs (in 3rd gear?) to get the JB4 to learn my car in Map 2?

The dyno I use will have its RPM pickup replaced & I will be back on the dyno next week & would like to capture the Map 2 results.

There are some posts for logging either on here or e90post, just do a google search and you'll find them. I think a full 3rd gear pull is what is generally used.

As for learning, it's usually a few WOT runs but it does continue to adapt over time from what I recall. I usually do 2-3 runs from 0-70 when I do a map switch.

I don't think it's about the power as much as it's the refinement of the JB4 maps.

A few more rookie questions Got the firmware JB4_091611.hex update installed & was curious if itís a regular production or beta release? I will do some logs as soon as I get a shotgun rider to play with the lap top unless it can be left on in log mode unattended for the runs.

Second I will be getting some dyno runs on map 2 most likely next week. I have found a source for 100 octane gas a few towns away in Cary NC which I intend to mix in or use straight for the dyno run. I have been using map 2 on 93 octane since installation, once I refuel do I need to do some runs to adjust the JB4 to the new gas? If so I guess I will have to do a few more when I go back to the normal 93 octane local gas.

Hey Terry, lots of props on the way the JB4 and Meth kit ran at Daytona this weekend. Still in drivers Ed class with instructor but on 2nd of 7 track sessions I hit 138 in the middle line of the banking as I shifted to 5th. IATs were awesome and in the short straights I left most of the Porsches, M3s/M5s, and Mustangs in the dust. Ran both Map 3 and Map 6 successfully. One 2.2gal tank lasted the all 7 sessions. Melted a brake pad sensor but that is not suprising. I have a huge custom oil cooler with a 40 row Setrab core and never went over 255 on oil temps.

The Vettes and Vipers were on the top banking line doing 180+, but I see 150 and 160 in the straights coming in the next few events at Homestead, Palm Beach, and Sebring. I'll be running true road race tires (Nitto NT01) and Pagid Yellow pads on Stoptech slotted/drilled rotors.

Sounds like he's doing a driving school or program of some kind, going around to different tracks. The schools/programs rent the track out from what I understand.

I went with the Fla. Chapter of PBOC (porsche BMW owners club). We had drivers Ed (novice-advancd), solo, and super solo sessions. Hooked on Driving has similar events and classes.

If you're using 100 octane race fuel you can use map 7. Best to let it adapt a few runs before bothering with a dyno. Or just do 3-4 runs on the dyno.

9/16 is the latest firmware. Not following you on the laptop. You press start and throw it on the floor or seat until you're done doing runs?

Terry, stopping the logs on the laptop is a bit of a hassle at the track. It would be pretty neat to have an option for the JB4 to auto-stop logging and do an export at the end of a WOT run with X number of data points.

I'm a .net software developer by day and I'm looking into writing an app that takes the CSV files and imports to a database so I can see all my runs at once, also doing graphing in the app similar to the JB4 JPG but on the fly with side by side comparison between two different runs. Should keep me busy during the winter

Are there any threads on tuning divertor valves?

Probably not. The Sunaco GT260+ is 104 octane and a good value.

Dumb questions but here goes - a friend of mine has a JB4 with a USB installed but he has has a mac and hasnt taken the time to set up a windows VM or dowload the interface never updated the firmware since he first installed back in Feb of this year. at the office today he asked me if i could update it with the 9/16 firmware for him. I have done many updates to mine, but is there and any issue with jumping from the 2/12 firmware straight to 9/16 update?
