Your ROM is 98G0B.

If you have say V53.3 datens you could navigate to E89/data/MEVD17. In this folder open the MEVD17.DAT file with a text editor and search your zsub (8639088). It should highlight a row of numbers, the 4th one along finishing in DA. Note this one down.

In your E89/data/MEVD17 folder you then need to locate the number you wrote down which will be Bxxxxxxx.0DA. Open this file with a text editor and on about the 6th or 7th line down you'll see your ROM version.

Not sure why you get the varying values however 98G0B wasn't around in 2010 so I'd go with the 23/07/2014 date.

BTW if you use a set of datens which don't have 8639088 or a newer updated version, the above probably won't work.

So based on the "Dont flash if your car is after 2013 or got Update by Dealer after 07/2012!" warning, I'm out of luck? Or is 98G0B still flashable to PPK?

Thanks again for all your help.

Not sure, I've never been in that position and pretty much stick to working on my own car only so have no experience of flashing a DME with a dealer update.

You could give it a try and / or 'force flash' (if needed) through WinKFP but I wouldn't advise either given the potential to 'brick' the DME.

You could give this guys a try as he seems quite knowledgeable:-

Do you have a recent set of datens? If so, could you attach your E89/data/MEVD17/MEVD17.HIS file to a post?

The 8664422 zsub is fairly new and I don't have any datens recent enough to work back.

Also, I'm assuming you're ECU is MEVD172? If, as per your car details, you have a 03/2010 model it should be.

8647130 is the zsub before 8664422 however I don't have any recent datens with 8647130 in so cannot check if it's 98G0B or 98G1B.

8639116 is the zsub before 8647130 and is present in datens V53.3 which I do have. For V53.3 datens, 8639116 would be the 98G0B zsub you need

Hello,
Is it possible to install the PPK on a 2013 BMW 135i N55 with DCT?
My current DME Version is: 8615879
My DME is a MEVD176K

VIN: WBAUC9109DVM05372

Is it possible? I cannot find any info, and the dealer charges a ton for just the PPK Software upgrade.

Guys - please read the previous content of this thread

ganque - If you choose to proceed, its at your own risk:-

Posted by Hanswurst - http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=279

fordnox - Pretty much the same answer, assuming the 'programming date' (Programmierdatum) of 21.08.2013 was done by the dealer:-

I'm sure there is but it's either at the stealers, by risking this method or finding someone who has experience with WinKFP PPK flashes on a car updated in 2013.

Try this guy

Can now add a Pure Stage 2 with a BEF to stop the DCT slip.

There is no such thing as 98G0B or 98G1B...

The program versions are 8G0B or 8G1B.

Each ZB number is comprised of a program data set file (*.0pa) and a data data set file (*.0da). You can determine which data sets correspond to which ZB numbers by entries in the [ECU Family].DAT file.

For example, here is an excerpt from the MEVD17.DAT file:
Code:
$ PS10INIT N00000000000000000000000020000000000000 D
$ VERSIONKFCONF: kfconf10.dat
;Zusbauvorschrift vom 26.02.2013 15:27
;SG-TYP: MEVD17
;ZB-NR  TYP-NR  HW-NR  IX SW-NR     AM          PIN S CS
8615778,7586143,8618483,A,8615777DA,0FFFFFFFFFD,000,1 F
We see that ZB number 8615778 is comprised of program data set 8618483A.0pa and data data set B8615777.0da. Open the .0da file and examine the data reference (ZL_REFERENZ).

Here is an excerpt from the B8615777.0da file:
Code:
;==========================================
;Austausch-Datei
;==========================================
;
;;ZL_System:        MEVD17.2
;;ZL_Projekt:       N55 BN2000

;==========================================
;
;;K_Stand:
;;K_File-Name:      B8615777.0da
The secret decoder ring for the data reference is as follows:

ECU identifier: 008
Project: 79809
Program version: 8G0B
Data version: QFP2S

This is the data reference from ZB number 8664428:
Code:
;==========================================
;Austausch-Datei
;==========================================
;
;;ZL_System:        MEVD17.2
;;ZL_Projekt:       N55 BN2000

;==========================================
;
;;K_Stand:
;;K_File-Name:      B8664427.0da
The program and data versions differ, 8G0B vs. 8G1B and QFP2S vs. QFP6S respectively.

808awd, thanks for the info. Are there different program versions for different transmissions. Or would the 98g0b referenced above work on auto, mt, and DCT ?

Hey 0808AWD325xi, sounds like you know lots about this. Any chance you can help out the guys asking for the PPK flash or those on 98G1B (8G1B ) move back to ROM 98G0B so they can flash a BEF with COBB?

BTW - does what they're called not depend on whether we're referring to the ROM version?

You're welcome. No, the program version is the same across transmission types. For example, ZB number 8666690 is for a 135i MT and ZB number 8664442 is for a 135i DCT. Both ZB numbers are program version 8G1B, only the data versions differ:

Thanks keyap. Not at the moment. Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a long distance move and don't have a lot of spare time. Perhaps when I get to Austin, Texas in June, if there is a forum member in that area that needs help with downgrading their program version, I can certainly assist.

In theory, they should be able to use WinKFP in expert mode to downgrade from program version 8G1B to 8G0B by simply flashing the correct *.0pa file. Expert mode allows you to specify the data sets to be used and can flash program and data independently from one another.

I stand corrected. You're right.

I'm not sure why they prepend the last alphanumeric from the project to the program version when referring to "ROM" versions. Same thing is true in the N54 world as well.

A few guys have PM'd me and that's what I thought too but I'd hate for something to go wrong. Hopefully people will not try unless they are 200% sure of what they are doing

For those that aren't familiar with WinKFP expert mode, this is a good primer:
http://file.maron.edoblog.net/9d5b2405.pdf

It's slightly outdated as newer versions of WinKFP can import the program and data files via the Import/Export menu rather than manually copying files.

Thanks 808awd. How do you know what data version is for what transmission. For example, If I have a DCT and want to go back to 8g0b, how do know what data version I need?

You're welcome, houtan.

My assumption is that you want to go from 8G1B to a 8G0B PPK flash...

For example, if your vehicle is an E82 (US) with a MEVD17.2 DME and a DCT transmission. Per the OPs matrix, you would need to flash ZB number 8647156.

I am using SP daten 57. Open the [ECU Family].HIS file which contains the history of program (ZB number) revisions. In this example, that would be MEVD17.HIS.

Search for ZB number 8647156. You will see that it was replaced by ZB number 8664448:
Code:
8647156,8664448,01,MV
Search for ZB number 8664448. As of SP daten 57, 8664448 is the latest, there are no revisions which supersede it.

Open the MEVD17.DAT file and search for 8664448:
Code:
$ PS10INIT N00000000000000000000000020000000000000 D
$ VERSIONKFCONF: kfconf10.dat
;Zusbauvorschrift vom 03.08.2015 15:39
;SG-TYP: MEVD17
;ZB-NR  TYP-NR  HW-NR  IX SW-NR     AM          PIN S CS
[...]
8664448,0000000,8664451,A,8664447DA,0FFFFFFFFFD,000,1 T
[...]
We see that the program data set is 8664451A.0pa and the data data set is B8664447.0da. Open the B8664447.0da data file and decode the data reference:

We see that the program version for ZB number 8664448 is 8G1B. Hence, you would want to flash the prior revision listed in the OPs matrix, ZB number 8647156.

SP daten 57 which did not include ZB number 8647156. You would need to find an earlier SP daten which includes ZB number 8647156.

I found SP daten 54, which includes ZB number 8647156. Here is an excerpt from the MEVD17.DAT file:
Code:
$ PS10INIT N00000000000000000000000020000000000000 D
$ VERSIONKFCONF: kfconf10.dat

[...]

Open the B8647155.0da data file and decode the data reference:

We see that it is in fact program version 8G0B...

Because your DME has program version 8G1B, you would want to flash it with with both the program data set (8618483A.0pa) and the data data set (B8647155.0da) from ZB number 8647156.

I hope that helps.
