Default Harness to Disable All Traction Control on Ignition - 05-14-2018, 11:32 AM

All,

Is your arm tired of holding down the traction control button for 5 sec every time you get in your car? I have made a solution!!!!

On ignition the system automatically puts the car in Traction Control Off mode. If you want to enable traction control all you have to do is hit the DTC button and traction control comes back on. Basically it does the 5 second hold and then returns the button to its normal functions.

I am currently making a disable switch for the system that ties into the "hotel" switch in your glove box, the switch locks your trunk. So locked hotel switch means the system will not turn off traction control on start up.

I have made one of these and willing to make some for others if you are interested. Cost will probably be $70-100.

I made this for my 2009 135i. If your buttons look like mine then it will work.

Please let me know if there is any interest.

Link is to video of startup.

Cool! Always nice to see people doing stuff like this.

I'd be down if it weren't so expensive, and if I didn't let my girlfriend/valet drive my car every once in a while. The last thing I want is for them to not have any nannies.

At what price point do you think this gets traction?
I probably used a lot of items that were not priced optimally since this was the first build.

About time someone made that. If I hadn't installed a LSD which makes DTC usable, I'd be buying one from you at that price in a heartbeat.

I have a MFactory LSD and it makes me dislike the DTC even more. It is awesome to lay down the power and the only thing controlling the wheels is the right pedal.

Update:
I finished tested the “valet” mode that I have wired through the hotel switch. Valet mode locks the trunk as always but also defeats that automatic turning off of the DTC. It took modifying the circuits in the switch so I might have to charge a core fee because those switches are $50 to buy new.

It's all very thorough. I hope one of the part dealers here buys the concept off of you and markets it. I'm sure they'd list at a similar price. I'm almost interested... but my wife... she needs traction (rain) and doesn't like to push buttons. If I were the only driver, I'd be in.

For auto cars even with disabling with the button, traction control does come on if going sideways.would this disable the side traction for autos?not just straight line?

How's that? Why would the autos be different? Are you holding the button down to get it to go completely off or just hitting the button once? That's strange. I've just never heard of it before.

not sure how other autos are but for me,i cant disable the traction control totally just by pressing the button to disable.think it might be normal.if we can disable it totally when needed i would love that.

Just wait till abs motor brush gets stuck. You will get the triple yellow lights on the dash and traction control will be disassembled all day every day

I've observed the same thing.
I had the traction disabled (5 second press), purposely slid on a corner and spinning the rear wheels (auto trans), suddenly the traction kicked in.
This surprised me considerably as I didn't know this could happen.
I wasn't sure what was going on, but now reading your post, I suspect it's the same thing.
I do not yet know the exact conditions required before it kicks in... I can still spin on corners without it effecting... maybe it relates to how fast and how many sideways g's?

There are quite a few systems that affect traction in this vehicle.
-DTC
-Torque vectoring
-Electronic LSD

The DTC can control all of these to an extent but the torque vectoring and the e diff both have to be coded off to fully disable. You might be felling the torque vectoring or the e diff braking a wheel for you to regain traction. The DTC mainly will cut power if you have the others disabled keeping you from spinning your tires. There is a write up on my blog about how to disable those. Check the bottom of my signature for the link.

Intensely weighted car to build for drifting.
Was there a reason the 535 was chosen?

I like them big booty girls. Lol.

Reminds me a lot of my 93TT supra I drifted. Minus all the computer controlled assisted driving stuff that I am trying to remove.

Did you end up making/selling these? If so what was the final price?

It needs to be coded out. When you disable DSC, it is only the eDiff that is working. Well, the computer tries to keep the brakes from overheating so it will reduce power to the motor if it feels the eDiff is demanding too much of the brakes.

Yes I made one other and it is ready to go but I have parts for 2 or 3.
If you want the glove compartment valet switch to disable it then I need to buy some more parts because I don’t have any extra switches.

Price is a question, still need to add up what it cost me to build.

You need to code off a lot of nannies and disable to traction control button. Click on My blog link at the bottom of my signature. It will take you to my blog and there are post on there how to disable it all.

There are multiple electronic nannies that need to be coded off also AND the button needs held down for 5 seconds, doing both of these will disable everything. Click on the blog link in my signature and go to the E82-Track nannies blog post.

I would be fine without the glove compartment switch. How does it install? Is there any wiring cutting/splicing?

Definitely need to show a pricing fir these as I was hoping there was a way to code the DTC off by default, then on then stage 1 by using the DTC button.

BTW, the pictures are down in your original blog post of 1/23/2016 for coding the nannies out for LSD.
