Default ATF - 11-28-2016, 05:37 PM

Hello everyone. I am on the 335i in 2007. I am planning to exchange ATF this time. I would like to use high-performance ATF from aftermakers rather than OEMATF. What kind of product is available ATF?

ZF Lifeguard 6 is the recommended oil.

Thank you for your opinion. ZF Lifeguard 6 is certainly a recommended item. I am looking for an ATF for sports driving. Is not there anything?

He's right I tried red line and the Trans did not like it. Went back to oem ZF and life is good again. You want it to run cooler put an inline Trans cooler/thermo at 165 and get rid of the heat exchanger. Don't cut corners on driveline.

There's numerous reports of people using non-OEM fluid and having issues, then going back to OEM fluid and issues going away. There's far less reports of people claiming that OEM fluid caused issues. If you spend a few hours scouring the internet you can find such reports.

Don't get me wrong, I'll all for using non-OEM fluid since it's cheaper most of the time. However this was one case where I decided it was batter to stay OEM.

We used to use Valvoline Max Life ATF which is Dex6 full synthetic. Worked fine. We have also used Redline D6 in the past as well. Works fine also. I've also been told that the Pentosin works well, but I buy ATF by the 55 gallon drum so the Pentosin and ZF aren't options for me.

I put in Pentosin ATF and the car seemed to really like it. It had super smooth shifting after and haven't had in any issues in the past 10K.

Save urself a headaches and use zf fluid. After you get it filled with the procedures. Drive it some, put back on stands with car running and add fluid very important I promise it will take about half liter more, because u can't cycle through all the gears on the stands

Thank you for various opinions. It seems OEM items are safe after all. Although red line D6 seems to be compatible with OEM products, it is worrisome. Because I do sports driving, I am quite lost.

They're people putting down crazy wtq #s with oem fluid..stop wry about sport driving as heat is the enemy. The best thing u could do is buy a upgraded atf cooler. I've drove my car pretty hard in 95 degree weathet and Trans Temps never got hot they stayed in the normal range. I've heard bad story's with everything other than oem fluid. Go to www.thectsc.com order some it's the best price ull find and u don't wanna mix d4 or whatever with oem you will have to do at least 2 drain and fills. I would do 3 to make sure it's out

There seems to be a lot of trouble in ATF other than OEM. It seems good to use ATF oil cooler using OEM's ATF. Just is the ATF oil cooler kit sold?
