Default Advance Auto Injectors - Seals? - 09-08-2016, 10:28 AM

Can anyone who ordered these injectors from Advance Auto confirm if they come with seals on them? I understand injectors don't normally come with decouplers and will pick some up from the dealership, just wondering if I will need to source the tool for putting on seals. Also, can you confirm index, please?

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/g...es+&showTitle=

Thanks!

Yup, but doesn’t state if they are sold separately. If new, they typically come with seals.

The word require probably means they don't. I'm 99% sure

Your local dealer should have the decouplers in stock, for like $8 each.

FYI, a member on another forum order these exact injectors from Advance Auto; received them last night and confirmed index 12 and they come with seals on them. I ordered a set and will reconfirm once received, but it's safe to say they come ready for install (other than decouplers).

That is good news, it still leaves hope that they are new and not refurbished.

Another member on other forum confirmed seals are installed on the AA injectors. Again, mine will be delivered today; post pictures tonight or tomorrow.

Received AA injectors last night; all look brand new in sealed boxes. No indication of being remanufactured that I can see. Did not pull caps off to check for seals, but I am installing tonight and will update thread.

Great to see another vendor offering these in brand new condition. These were getting hard to get for a bit there it seemed.

Agreed. I've been searching for a little while now. O’Reilly’s and Autozone couldn’t get them as of a last week. Doesn’t seem like Rock Auto have had them for a while and other sites are ~$100 more per injector.

If you cannot easily remove the caps, that means the seals are installed. The cap prevents the seal from expanding until it's inserted into the cylinder head. Do not remove the cap until you are ready to insert the injector into the engine!

The caps need to be removed with pliers. I had to crush the very end of the cap with the pliers in order to get a good enough grip to pull it off. If you grip the very end of the cap you shouldn't have to worry about damaging the intjector tip. But compare lengths with one of the injectors you remove to make absolutely sure.

FWIW, those look exactly like the Standard Motor Products units I got from Rock Auto back when they were $110 each. I've probably put 6000 miles on them so far and they have been flawless.

Don't forget to code them with INPA!

Appreciate the tips. I didn't remove the cap for that exact reason; waiting to install. INPA is setup and ready for coding.

A better option is to cut a short length of proper diameter PVC pipe. Slide the pipe onto the injector until it rests where the decoupling element would normally sit; take an open end wrench and use the pipe as a fulcrum and slowly ease the protector off the injector with the open end of of the wrench.

Works like a charm and no chance of causing damage to the injector

Took me a sec to imagine this, but yes that would work better.

We are up to idex 13 now? I just installed a set of index 12s in my own car. I seriously hope these injectors don't have issues down the road. How many tries does it take to get these things right?

Hmm, maybe not - my only knowledge of that was from this thread: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39006

One of the posts mentions hearing of an index 13 injector, but never having seen one.

I'd been holding off on a purchase as I wanted the latest index, and figured the index 13s were coming.

There are Index 13's out now. I'm jealous that you guys can get Injects from Advance Auto for such an insane price.. I'm in Canada, so they won't ship . May ship by the border.. Considering the cheapest I can get a full set of 6 in Canada is $2,050 CAD..
