I mean if you're going to create more potential leak points you should try your best to reduce the amount of things that are going to burn when the hose fails.
Or no?
We have had great luck with these materials. If you wish to order and would like to change them around to your liking, no big deal, its a short section of 5/8" ID hose do as you wish.

Thanks,
Rob

Just as an update, all oil drains have been shipped (that were not pre-designated to ship with other packages) and tracking info has been sent.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

Just for future reference, when I received mine they were not wrapped separately. They were just in a plastic baggy with all the other metal parts. Due to this, they must have bumped around while shipping scratching some of the anodizing off of the drains. I am sure once they are on and I am not looking at them it will be fine but the packaging process could have been better.

Thanks for the feedback. The primary problem was that one of the four adapters just didn't take well to the anodizing process (for whatever reason).

The anodized parts will also unfortunately scratch, but typically under harsher tampering. Fortunately these particular parts are never to be seen once installed, and that functionally it will not matter in the slightest.

Thanks,
Rob

Tony,

Rob is supplying the correct information here for the return line sizing. -8AN is never recommended for a drain size for a journal bearing turbo, -10AN is the minimum recommended size. I would use no less than -10AN even on a BB cartridge turbo given designing a system from scratch.

Rob,

Nice job of coming up with a product to help alleviate potential problems. Looks like it will have some great benefit to solving any issues from drainback restrictions.

Chris

You do realize these are not very visible installed right? Someone would have to take the car back apart to get pics. These are just higher flow fittings that connect the underside of the turbo to the engine block. Pictures of them are in this thread.

I think this is a great concept. But can you have some OEM quality hoses and connector instead? Or maybe AN fitting instead.

Just not a fan of hose clamp style connections for oil lines...

No sir. There is just not space for AN bends and what not, they are wayyyy to clunky to get it right. This is what I tried back in 2012 and realized it was not going to work and let the project die. In short if you want perfect angles for ideal draining (as pictured), this is the route you must take and I must say it was a massive undertaking to get these all angled to my liking. And BTW many OEM configurations use hose/clamps just like this. At the end of the day, the adapters are the expensive part… if someone feels they can use a better hose go ahead and get another hose that you prefer but the adapters will remain the same by necessity to say the least.

First I need to be clear that I know almost nothing about BMW, as I have only had my car for a few months. But I make my living as a red seal certified commercial transport mechanic and I do know something about oil lines & turbos.
Any of you guys that install these with heater hose are looking for trouble, I have seen first hand what engine oil does to heater hose over time. It degrades the hose from the inside & you will never see it. But chunks of crap will be going thru your whole system, not good. I just bought a set of turbos & am seriously considering buying these, they look great! But I will be using hose rated for oil & crimp clamps which anyone can install with a pair of side cutters.
Just saying
Barry

Agree on the above, just want to add in case anyone is confused- these are not equipped with heater hose.

Thanks,

It is a low pressure oil hose made by Gates of 5/8" ID. Used it for years with no issues ever.

"Tube: Black, oil resistant, synthetic rubber highly resistant to oil and heat (Nitrile - Type C)."

However and as stated prior, if anyone doesn't like it (want it in blue/etc), all you need less than 1' of any hose of your preference (each hose is around 5.5"). This stuff in particular is around $5 per ft, about the norm for a high quality oil hose.
