Default Stealth airbox mod for under $10 (pictures work now) - 11-24-2016, 09:27 AM

My best friend suggested I try this and given I see people sell air boxes all the time on Facebook so I figured I'd give it a go. Worse case I have to buy a used air box for 80 bucks. Idk how it performs yet but I'll keep y'all informed.

Step 1:
Remove air box.

Step 2:
cut a hole in the right side (see picture) with a hole saw. Sand it down after the hole is in the air box to ensure the surface is free from large particles and has grip to plastic weld the pvc shower drain to.

Step 3:
Sand the sides of the black pvc pipe to give the surface a little extra grip for plastic weld. After all the sanding is complete I took a cloth and wiped off all surfaces to remove debris from all surfaces.

Step 4:
I then used the plastic weld (pictured) and ran some in the outside of the pvc pipe.
I then inserted it into air box. After it was where I wanted I went from the inside and put a bead of plastic weld around the two contact points on the airbox and pvc pipe.

Step 5:
Let it sit for a while, the directions to plastic weld recommend 24 hours to ensure a perfect hold. I let it sit for 4 hours and then installed it again.

That's it! We'd recommend if you were driving the car daily to put a mesh screen over the grate, I did not do this however because I don't use the car daily.

I did this because DCI and CAI are like 400-500 dollars and very visible. I'm trying to give the illusion that my car has zero mods. This was very cheap and very hard to see at a quick glance. I'll let you guys know how it seems to work in the next month or so, but few free to comment and orntry it out yourself. Plastic weld and pvc purchased at lowes.

Let me know what you think below.
Happy thanksgiving nerds!

Right idea but it's even cheaper to just remove the airbox lid when racing or on the dyno. Then you put it back on when you want the air going in to the turbos/engine filtered.

I would not recommend anyone doing this. This permanently bypasses the air filter. You will quickly destroy the turbos and the engine.

It would have been easier to just remove your air filter, throw it away and then close air box lid. It would have at the very least gotten you colder air since you dont care about clean air entering your engine.

Awesomely well documented and photographed method of defeating that pesky factory air filter. Well done!

I like the idea. Stealthy and cheap. That air should be filtered though. Google or search MR5 intake. That takes your idea to the next level if your going to continue to use your stock airbox.

I've been looking into that stuff actually. The nizpro guys did this to their 335 and I love it.
