Angry N54 boost help - 05-08-2018, 12:43 PM

In an attempt to find boost leak, solenoid leak or any related issues due to lose of boost I just pulled the vacuum nipple off the manifold !! Now what can I do to vacuum my bov or cover the manifold? Maybe steal vacuum with a y adaptor from the solenoid out ?

The original problem I had was I only had 8-9psi running full throttle, targeting 17psi, and same for all maps on JB4. I checked boost leaks, just performed vacuum test on both solenoids and nothing, I will attatch log for run I did for this issue but now I have 2 problems to fix and an I can only assume that a new intake manifold is not cheap !

Any help for either of these is appreciated !

Theres definitely something up with solenoids or a boost leak, can't really help there.

Try this:

For the vacuum line and intake manifold, just drill and tap for a new port.

Most people drill and tap the manifold and put a 1/4 inch NPT and thread in a copper nipple. The plastic nipple breaks all the time and people say doing this make the Tial BOV work better.

Yep, just upgrade it to the bigger copper nipple and enjoy better BOV response. I outlined how to do this below:

I will go ahead and get the manifold fixed first , but is it possible for me to drive the car down to the store without any issues ?

https://youtu.be/1fxItzyrRS4

I used this video to test the vacuum and everything checked out just fine, does this test apply to the solenoids as well or will I have to perform the test you sent in the other video? Also is the wastegate a possible problem?

I think I will just go ahead and tap the manifold instead but thank you for the heads up I checked out the adapter and it’s pretty sweet !

Any update on my previous question anyone ?

Synapse bov is your problem was a constant battle to keep mine functionning properly. . pull it appart check if it got stuck, grease it then put it back in you should be good for at least 3 days before you have to do it again

yeah, a sticky BOV can stop closing completely and not allow boost to rise to target. Especially if it's getting a weak vac/boost signal.
Not familiar with Synapse, but I've got to stay on top of my Forge DV's for the same reason (although never had a problem, cleaning/regreasing them every few thousand miles).

I think doing all 3 suggestions:
drill/tap manifold for new nipple
upgrade lines to BOV
clean/grease BOV

would be a good way to find out if, or eliminate the possibility, it's the BOV.

So basically is the Solenoid out of the question by the vacuum line test I do? I will go ahead and take the BOV apart or I might have a friend of mine that can let me use his for testing! Thank you for the advice !

Glad you have got this back running. i have contacted synapse trying to address the issue of piston getting stuck in the cap couldnt get anything positive out of them.

Swaped to Tial QR black spring ordered the one with flange and tig welded it to my charge pipe, AN banjo fitting stainless steel -4 hose for the bling.
