Default N54 Upgraded turbos in Europe? - 06-02-2017, 12:56 AM

Hey guys, mine wastegate rattle became worse and worse which also lead to hitting the target boost 1k rpms higher so soon it might be time to change/upgrade my turbos.

The thing I want to check with you is if there reasonable priced turbo upgrade option in Europe? Since for example I read a lot of good reviews here for pure stage 2 dd but those imported in EU will be 3 times the price of brand new OEM ones which for me is way too much. I would be happy if some of you can share some options for the guys like me who are located in EU (its kind a annoying and strange that its european car and all the upgrades came from the states ).

Of course I would like to be good option not only to call it "stage x" and have tons of issue since otherwise I think my best choice will be just to get the OEM ones.

Off the top of my head:
ML Performance in the UK
The Turbo Engineers TTE550 in Germany
Mosselman MSL50-65 in the Netherlands
Turbo Dynamics in the UK do stages 1 and 2
Drive in Drive out waste gate repair for £590 - PMP Cars in Nuneaton UK. Could add RB Ones DIY to this which are $999 if you import these yourself.
Owen Developments in the UK used to do a stage 1
There may be more I've forgotten about.

I'm in the UK and looked at most options. Importing from the US is still a viable option taking the price of all of the above into account.

If you're looking to stay at your current 300whp, then you should just get OEM Mitsubishi's
If you get any upgraded turbos, you'll need to upgrade your fueling with at least a stage 2 LPFP with Walbro 450.

I am located in Hungary... might be looking for similar upgrade.
A reasonable option would be to rebuild/switch the current TD03 turbos to TD04, as the hotside is the most bottleneck anyway.

@UKThreethreefive - thanks for all the suggestions - nice list for sure. Although like you mention most of them are relatively close to the pure in price Do you have review/opinion on some of them?

Always tempting to have more power so if I get upgraded ones eventually I'll get stage 1/2 LPFP (not sure I need stage 2/3 since I'll not use meth or some Exx mix)

@NitroX5
This is an option as well, yeah. Local turbo shop can do this upgrade + wastegate rattle fix on my current turbos for 1400 euros but at the moment I can also get brand new OEM turbos for 1150 euros and I'm concern from reliability point of view how well will they rebuild & upgrade them.

Unfortunately I'm still undecided so can't help with opinion.
I'm in the same boat you are, weighing them all up. There are negative reviews for alot of the US offerings but they need to be taken with a pinch of salt. People rarely go on forums to say all is good so there is alot of negative bias.
Ideal for me would be RB next gens which have come down in price quite alot recently. TD04 centre section with TD04L turbine and 15T compressor. VTT look to be offering non GC stage 2 and 2+ soon for a very good price but not heard anything from VTT apart from due Q2 2017. I did email them a couple of days back but still awaiting a reply.

Hello, If you emailed us a couple days back, and did not receive a reply, you may have the wrong email. We always reply in minutes to most emails. Our Stage 2, and 2+ are finished. We are shipping 10 sets this week. We will be doing a results announcement, and group at the same time in the next couple of weeks. Keep in mind, these are 100% brand new turbos, down to the smallest part, not single part comes from a factory core, all are brand new parts. The group buy price is going to garner a lot of interest. Just hold tight...

Cheers Tony.

I used the form on your website so not sure how I could have got the wrong email address.
Sounds good on the testing and group buy. I assume as they are all new, no core deposits are needed. $1999 is a stonking price for all new turbos. Rain, this works out €1775, maybe less at group buy prices. I think Tony may be willing to "help" with the import costs. Can't say much more than that on a public forum

Weird,

That form usually goes right into sales. Let me have my web guy look into that.

The Group buy price is going to really upset the market...

it is a facebook close group, BMW 335iCZ. So I am afraid you will not get in. We are 69 N54/N55 owners there! Nice number.. it seems like all the german 335i end in my country. LOL

Any updates on the group sale @Tony? Also just to ask with those turbos we need inlets from you as well right (currently I have VRSF inlets + cone filters, can I keep em?)?

Its already on their web, the turbos are 2", so you will need 2" inlets. Now the turbos cost 2000usd, I am looking forward to the groupbuy :-D

We just launched a new company to bring cast turbos to the European market.
This is really interesting for the European customers because you do not have to pay shipping and import tax.You can check it out the with the following link.

http://www.lynx-turbochargers.com/

The homepage is currently in German but you will understand the important bits.
We are looking into a group buy at the moment that could be interesting for you guys.

Those Lynx turbos look just like GC's and GC lites.
Equivalent of $4550 and $3750 in USD so more expensive too.
The compressor housings on these look like they will accept the standard turbo outlets with the v-band clamp unlike the GC's so may be slightly different on that side but the exhaust manifold and turbine housing look pretty similar.
I hope I don't get in trouble for adding the pictures to this post.

The compressor housing outlets have the oem v-band connection and can be used with any of the aftermarket options designed for the oem units.
The stated price is including shipping and tax within EU and Switzerland.
