Review: VRSF *** For The E60 535i - With Video -
01-04-2015, 10:00 PM
As 5 series owners, we don't get many options when it comes to *** so you can imagine how thrilled I was, and hopefully many others, to hear that VRSF recently released a set for our vehicles. I almost went with the resonated AR Design *****, worried that *** without resonators or HFC's might be too loud. I was really looking to keep the car sounding as close to stock as possible, preferring the sleeper look/sound, wanting to remove the well known bottleneck of the stock ***.
I ordered the VRSF ***** and got them on the car a few weeks ago and wanted to share my thoughts on them, as well as post up a few sound clips for you guys to hear how they sound installed on the car (before & after).
Click Here to watch the video: there are a few pics of the ***** at the beginning before the sound clips start.
Overall, the ***** seem to be built really well. They're a gorgeous product to hold in your hand and I almost felt bad having them Ceramic Coated...but they're going under the car and I want the temps to stay as low as possible in the engine bay. The fitment was great, everything seemed to line up really well. These cars are a PAIN to install *** on though, subframe needs to be dropped to gain easy access to the ***** (see pic). I'm typically a DIY guy, having installed many turbos and turbo back exhaust systems myself on other vehicles, but ended up having a local shop do it for me because I was short on time, impatient to get them on the car, and didn't feel like laying on my garage floor for about 5 hours. I've found that I much prefer working on things up top here lately. Maybe I'm getting too lazy. Ok, enough of my rant on the install.
I can't say enough about how much better the throttle response & spool up is. Even part throttle, just driving around town, the boost comes on much faster making the car much more enjoyable to drive. The butt dyno said they made some power but unfortunately, I don't have a baseline to go by so hopefully someone else will have a chance to test that part of it. However, the increase in power can be felt, especially in the lower rpm range.
Here are a few pics and be sure to Click Here to see the video.

Thanks for all the info. Your post is the only one I've seen about these. I don't even see them on the website. Do they work for the XI?

I'm not surprised they're not on the site yet, they were shipped to me in a box labeled 335i. I had to touch base with Tiago just to make sure he didn't send me the wrong ***** right before I had them ceramic coated. He said that they just don't have boxes for the 535 ***** yet...it sounds like they haven't gotten around to putting them on the website yet either. But, yes, they definitely carry the *****. You may want to reach out to them directly to see if they fit the xi. I hope so for you XI guys, it's always good to have more options.

The ***** look great and I'm sure there reasonably priced, I'm hoping they will make DP's that will fit an XI. I remember months ago there where several posts by VRSF about producing DP's for the XI.

I paid $399 shipped for the *****. I just looked back through my emails with Tiago and saw that he said:

Based on his reply from a few months ago, I don't think they have any for the XI yet.

No CEL light. The JB4 G5 ISO has the fix already built in. No additional changes needed.

Are you talking about the backend flash that's uploaded via the BT cable?

$400 is a steal. It's about what 135/335s pay, but 535 always pays double or triple for mods as the market is a lot smaller. When I did mine a few years ago I was able to score a used set of ARs, ceramic coated. I also had the intake valves walnut blasted and remember enjoying the improved throttle response and big gain in torque.
Funny enough some of the valves were a lot cleaner since I was spraying meth at the time. That's a hidden benefit of meth, industrial cleaner!
I am pretty sure ARs fit Xdrives, but they are around $1,000 or more. Plus the 4-5 hr install!

Never thought about the bonus of meth battling carbon build-up.
ARs do fit the xi and may be the only *** that do. I was able to score my set for for $400 but had to track them down from S Korea! Well worth the hassle.

That sounds great. Not too much but just enough on the sound for me. You mind sharing what you spent on install? I know it varies, just curious.

You bet. It was 5 hours of labor at $95 per hour. Total was $475 for install.

Mine took 6 hrs. Shop quoted me $250 because they had done 335s before and assumed it was same thing, lol. What a PITA it was.

$250 is a bargain! That's awesome. Yes, the 335's seem to be much easier to put *** on for some reason. You would think the 5 series, being bigger, would be easier to work on. Apparently that's not the case.

Exact same engine, larger and wider engine bay. Yet just a bitch to get to the turbos and everything else up in that area. One shop actually lifted out the engine in order to fit RBs. Remember that? Nuts.

I can confirm AR fit the XI as I had mine installed the same time I did my RB's price was around $900 for the AR's!
