First, I am not expert Jb4, but as I know, If you just use map1 or map2, you don't need to connect EWG connector.(it doesn't matter your JB4 is normal board or not) It just helps that can use more higher boost and hold it (For example map7 and map3)

So, originally, you don't need to care about ewg connector.
But, already you have installed it, then just let it leave.
(I mean you don't need to remove it.)

but if some benefits exist using ewg connector, I beileve Terry will let you know

Not surprised. 91 octane is bad enough for the stock turbo. Trying to run a larger turbo on it just isn't going to work. The main weakness in the motor has been the rods, but I'm sure pistons would be close behind. A good set of forged rods and pistons with maybe 1pt lower CR would be the basis for a strong motor going forward.

Yeah we started the engine tear down already. We'll know if it's the valve train by this Sunday. Either way... I'll be up and running before the end of the month and will be back to pushing the car again

Hi Terry

I need your advice. I've just installed JB4 beta on my 420i. I also update firmware N20_JB4_EWG_7.1.
The question is which MAP is the most suitable for my car for daily use and I only use gasoline A95???
I also installed AR ******* ******** from your shop.
Thank for your advice!

Hi Terry, in Brazil our gasoline has 27% methanol. Do I have to use FF wires, even if my car is not flex? Thanks in advance!

Hi All,

I have a 2015 328i xDrive that I plan on adding the JB4 to in about 300 more miles (break in period of 1200 mi). I have the N26 motor and the EWG and the JB4 I purchased off the classifieds on BimmerPost was purchased sometime earlier this year. After reading some of the progress that has been made it appears there is a new board available (EWG specific board) as well as a EWG hardness add on.

The question is whether or not I should purchase those upgrades before I install. For reference I'm leasing the vehicle and may add an axel back at some point. Maybe an intake, but that's as far as I see myself going with this car. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance!

-Matt

Hey! It's ethanol and it's 25% if you use high octane gas (Petrobras Podium 95RM2). I wouldn't run on regular gas at all.

Cheers

Yep it was piston #1 that cracked due to too much boost

I just started receiving the battery drain warning. JB4 n20 f30 328iXdrive 2015. Installed about a month ago and I am on the most current software EWG7_1. I have a JB4 circa 2014 installed.

Just an update that I had the warning everyday until I removed the JB4. Any thoughts on what could be the matter?

Default N20 OBDII Dash Controls & Firmware - 08-05-2015, 11:30 AM

Hey guys,

We have a BETA version of the N20 OBDII firmware ready for testing. We have it ready to go for EWG models first but will add PWG (cars with blue patch connected) down the road.

We've determined that the PT CANbus where the JB4 is connected via POSITAPs won't support the in dash commands we're looking to run. So we've developed a custom OBDII port CANbus connector for JB4 CANbus communications. It's easy to install, leaves no trace when removed, and allows us a much wider range of CANbus communications with the vehicle.

To install you drop the panel under the steering wheel by removing 2x 10mm bolts, push the OBDII cable through an existing hole to the firewall to the engine bay, remove the CANbus POSITAPs previously installed, connect the green and brown CANbus wires to this OBDII cable using the supplied wire nuts, and load the dedicated OBDII CAN JB4 firmware.

The required custom made OBDII CANbus cable is $35. Order your OBDII cable here: http://www.burgertuning.com/N55_JB4_upgrades.html

We will use this thread for details, firmware updates, and settings.

Basic overview of the wheel controls:

Current in dash settings as of v1 firmware:

Note CANflap and menu system for changing maps, enabling the boost gauge, etc, now use exclusively the BC button. The old volume routine is no longer used.

'***************************************
Exhaust Valve Mode:
'***************************************

Toggle between flap open, flap closed, and OEM operation, by pressing the button for 2 seconds and letting go. The left blinker will flash for valve open, right blinker for valve closed, and both blinkers for OEM operation. The valve setting is persistent and will remain in effect until you change it. If you hold the button too long you'll jump in to the in dash menu system below.

'***************************************
'OBDII In Dash Menu
'***************************************

'0 map menu, map shown on tach
'1 Active Sound MUTE (not relevant for most N55 models)
'2 Boost gauge on fuel, scaling in dash is 0 to boost safety setting, turns on when gas pedal is pressed 50% or more and turns itself off when you resume low throttle use.
'3 LED MAX brightness mode. For those with factory LED headlights this option brightens HALO during nighttime operation.
'4 OBDII Diagnostic Code Delete
'5 1st gear boost limiter
'6 2nd gear boost limiter
'7 3rd gear boost limiter
