Default N55 Build Motor - 11-27-2017, 09:01 PM

Hello folks!

I thought it's a good time to share my build. We have here probably the first N55 full build motor. The project still in the works. All the work has been done by ABR Houston. They have done an amazing job so far. The build motor includes closed deck, ported and polished heads with Ferrea valvetrain.

Here is pic of the small block:

Here is the cylinder heads

Also, I'll be installing Big Boost 3.4 Turbo kit.

The car still Auto for now. I still debating in between upgrading to a full build Propulsive Dynamics AT or DCT swap.

More pictures to come stay tuned

Wow, sweet stuff man!
Do you mind if I ask you how much this all costed?
Also how are you going to tune the car? MHD? Not sure if the knock sensor tables need to be readjusted too because of the different alloy in the pistons and the closed deck nature of the block.

edit I see youre not F series so it must be mhd or something else.

Ewww...always nice to see shiny parts! Looks good thus far!

Forged pistons, rods, and crank?

DCT swap, M4 flywheel, and SSP clutches.

All I can say it ain't cheap!

I have E-series so, I'll be using JB4 and MHD BEF.

I thought about the knock tables too. I guess we will know more about that during the tuning process.

Thanks Steve!

Everything is forged!

Actually, ABR found that the M235's and M2's already have forged crankshaft compared to the regular N55's.

Lol tell me about it, I built alot of EJ motors in subarus and each time they costed almost $20k CAD for head work, internals, porting, labour, parts, etc.

This looks awesome, I'll be following this with interest.

Also- InB4 someone lectures you about just upgrading to an M-model being a better spend of your $$.

i am really interested about the knock table issues. They have stand alone for N54 but not for the N55 yet. I hope you can get this going without getting to radical (although part of me hopes you have to get radical and pull it off )

I know my engine will blow in the next 24 months so will be watching closely. Is the M235/M3 crank plug and play? For a 1K HP set up I was thinking OEM pistons, forged crank and rods, ARP head studs might do the trick.

A few questions if you have time:
1. Did you go with stock compression?
2. Is the new crank plug and play?
3. Did you use new ARP hardware, if so did ABR finish there head studs or what did you do here?
4. What are your power goals?

Seems like with this engine and your trans its going to be a long and exciting ride.

1. Yes, It's stock compression.
2. It's plug'n'play. No modification is need it.
3. That's the most difficult part to get. I've talked to ARP and Raceware ,and they don't want to do it. Apparently, they are geared towards volume production so, N55 studs are no no to them because it's very expensive to produce custom engine studs. The shop was really concert about this too but, they back down after talking to TPG. TPG is running stock heads bolts in their S55 build motor without a problem.
4. My goal is 750 whp for now.

Nice build. Can you elaborate on the deck closure? How was that done? Before and after pics? How about the sleeves? Were they resleeved, or just bored/honed? What kind of bore clearance are you going with on the pistons?

I'm sorry but, I never got a notification about your post.

ABR prefer inserts instead of sleeves. Here is the link of their website on the closed deck process and the whole built (BTW, their website shows a N54 but, it's basically the same process on the N55, etc.)

http://www.abrhouston.com/performance-engines/

I'll post before / after picture of the closed deck conversion later.

I still need to stop by ABR. I've heard some really good things about them.

OP:Hope to get to see your build when I stop by. I could use some inspiration.

nice, build I wanted to port the head a while ago, but didn't really step into it yet, looking for feedback. are you doing the valve lift support mod too or leaving intake lift stock?
is Ferrera valves necessary I don't see the need without rising RPM limit.

It's stock lift. I got the Ferrea valvetrain because I'm hoping for VAC to releases upgraded cams for the N55 in the near future.
