Default Possible to "correct" the speedo? - 04-23-2017, 07:51 PM

I know my two BMWs (and an older MB that I own as well) like to over-exaggerate the actual speed by a few mph. But now that I put slightly different tires on my e60, it's off by 4+ MPH now. Kind of annoying.

Is there any coding, etc, for correcting this? At least for the few it tacked on as OEM...I don't expect to be able to code out the tire-size changes.

Thanks.

EDIT: I have found it for the E90...possibly the same as for the E60, but what I found was sorta old and they were doing a lot of trial and error. Sometimes it would make the cruise control stop working, etc.

Wondering if it's been "settled" yet, and for which cars.

Doesn't look like you can do it on an e46.

Carly is an android app that does most of the coding that's possible - the instrument cluster module is available in the e90 series, but not in the e46 series.

http://support.mycarly.com/knowledge...t-is-possible/

Relevent options for e9x:
Digital speedometer
• active
• not active
The current speed is shown in the digital display below the speedometer. (codable in KOMBI)

Digital speedometer correction
• true speed
• ‘corrected’ speed
Per default the speed shown in the digital speedometer is ‘corrected’ by the car. This has the effect that the shown speed is a bit higher than the true speed of the car. (codable in KOMBI)

Correction’ analog speedometer
• true speed
• ‘corrected’ speed
This coding does not work on US models. Per default the speed shown in the digital speedometer is ‘corrected’ by the car. This has the effect that the shown speed is a bit higher than the true speed of the car. (codable in KOMBI)

EDIT: Re-reading your comment, you're talking about your e60. In that case, yes. If you've got an android tab that you've used for MHD, look into Carly (it's just so easy). Otherwise, talk to someone on these forums about how it's done in ncs-expert. FYI - I've got an Australian delivered car and found even with the coding my analogue speedo reads a little high, but the digital display is spot-on accurate with GPS.

The coding has no effect on the digital display or HUD. It corrects the analog one only. I've had it done on 4 different BMW chassis (E39, E70, F02, F34) and confirmed that.

Lol, yes the e60. Thanks, I'll check that out!

I don't have digital or (unfortunately) HUD, so that's fine. Thanks

You would be able to have digital with coding, and the correction only works on that speedo on the E6x. I checked with my guy.

Got mine coded to display the digital as well. Now the digital V= says the same exact speed as the analog speedo needle, but both are wrong compared to my Escort 9500ix radar detector's GPS speed (which I'm 99.999% is dead on correct).

He (coder) even said he specified "TRUE" (or whatever it is) so that they would not be exaggerated, but they still are.

It generally reads 2-3mph fast even when corrected. Thats why I normally use the JB4 Mobile GPS for speed when I have it connected.

I am SO GLAD you mentioned that! I use the JB4 app often, now that I have a sweet setup for it, but the GPS function has never worked.

What did you mean by, "when I have it connected."? Are you referring to having the GPS connected somehow that I'm not aware of, or the JB4 app itself connected? What's the trick???

Thanks,

I don't always keep the phone connected to the JB4 or keep the app open. When its open I have the GPS speedo. When its not, no choice but to use the stock ones.

Ahhhh, that's probably my issue...I'm using a Samsung tablet which probably doesn't have GPS. Something to check into...

EDIT: my tablet DOES have GPS, but I had Location Services turned OFF, so I had my GPS disabled. It's turned on now, I should be good to go! Awesome.
