First n54 log with new Turbos and FBO -
01-13-2018, 04:18 PM
Hey everyone,
It’s winter here but Just took my e60 n54 out for a quick run to do some pulls on map 5. Long story short just installed Pure Stage 2 DD Turbos and FBO including ******* *********, inlets and outlets, 7” FMIC, turbosmart BOV, Jb4 with Rev3 (iPhone app) and MHD flasher app on an android device. (BEF options or custom tune)
I’m new to this whole logging stuff and wanted to see where I need to start. Attached are 2 short logs.
Sorry for the super newbie approach but could use some help to get my car locked in with what I have available right now until I can get a custom tune down the road. At a glance it looks like my evil psi is not hitting the target boost levels on map 5. What could this be and how can I make tweaks to fix? Anything is looking outta wack? How can I fix?
Thanks all and look forward to this journey of n54 boost

Im pretty new to this stuff too. With stock turbos I know to start you would need to set your JB4 settings to default http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10605
then let you can let map 5 adjust on its own. im not to sure with the set up you have also I think you gotta do a pull from 2k to atleast 6k RPM, pic a gear 3rd or 4th to get good data

As mentioned, you need to set your user adjustments to the defaults. Your current setup is incorrect and will cause a lot of issues.

Thanks both, how do I set the user adjustments do default? When I go into the app and click user settings everything says 0 and there isn’t a button or options to hit default.
Can someone let me know how to do this? Once this is done do I then select map 5 again and do some logs? Thanks

You will have to enter them manually and save them while connected to the car.
Yes, once that is done, do a log on map 5.

Ok sounds good. I’ll do a search and see if I can find the default settings numbers. I’ll post new logs once I get a chance. Thanks

That was easy -

Updated firmware and took 2 more quick logs.
How do these logs look? Anything need adjusting or an issue? Car pulls consistently pulls harder now with the suggested update. Seems that boost drops off at higher rpms which may be the 17psi limit but it feels good. Also feels like there is some lag and boost doesn’t kick in until 3k rpm.
Thanks for the continued help and I’ll be sure to search through the forums.

Those logs are not very good. You need to log from 2000-6500 rpm WOT in 3rd. Also turn on ign logging for cylinders 2-6

User adjustment settings were not set to default...those will need to be updated before doing additional logs.

Personally I’d set your user adjustment settings to default, and let’s see some logs on Map 2 first- ensure everything is correct & then move our way up. Just my initial thought.

Default User setting view -
01-18-2018, 07:25 PM
Dave, I will make some logs on Map 2 tomorrow.
Attached is a screen shot of the default user settings I manually input. Are these correct as I can’t find an example with all of the values that I actually see on my mobile app. Also, default shows Fuel Bypass at 0, but mine keep putting values in, is that supposed to happpen?
I Definitely want to ensure the foundational things are correct before I start pushing things.
Thanks all again for inputs, much appreciated.
Sorry, Site won’t let me attach my pics

I'd recommend logging on map 1, map 2 looks to be too aggressive, you are pulling timing, I avg is high, and your AFRs are quite rich. Probably due to the DME seeing knock.

Ok -
01-25-2018, 08:49 PM
Is it easier for me to just get a custom tune done? Can you tell if my LPFP is operating ok? I don’t plan to run e85 anytime soon but don’t know if it is functioning properly.
Last, it’s interesting that my car seems to be acting weird with these mods. From being s long time car and bmw enthusiast, it always seemed like factory boosted cars were more plug and plug to get serious power. This kinda seems touchy. Dunno though as I’m a newbie. My expectation was go FBO and upgrade Turbos, run on map 5 and I’m good.
Lmao I guess not so much.

Fuel pump looks fine thus far. There is no replacement for octane but I would suggest loading up the BMS pump flash.
