BMS Drop in for Corvette C7 GM Performance Cold Air Intake Dyno Testing -
09-24-2019, 01:44 PM
Order your BMS Drop In Filter Here!
Due to the huge success of our C7 BMS Drop in filter and it's proven power gains rivaling aftermarket intake systems costing 5x more we've been working on a version of our filter for the new C7 GM Performance clear window airbox.
We initially expected GM had optimized their performance intake so didn't expect we'd be able to make many improvements. But upon closer inspection were surprised how much they left on the table with it.
Here is a side by side comparison of the GM performance airbox filter vs. the BMS performance airbox filter. You'll note we were able to make our version much longer to better extend in to the fender area but also increase the internal dimensions adding around 0.3" of internal diameter. We further improved flow by eliminating the unnecessary aluminum mesh wrap on the GM filter and used our OEM filtration spec paper element.

The results showed a fairly significant increase in power between our drop in and the GM filter. We logged boost and AFR on the dyno during the runs as well as full logs via HP Tuners to better quantify the reason for the substantial gains and determined some is due to the reduced restriction of the filter itself while some of the gains, like from the original BMS drop in, are due to the ability of the thinner filter base to adjust the air/fuel ratio.
Almost as interesting was the fact that the original airbox with BMS drop in yielded dramatically more power than the GM airbox and was almost on par with the GM airbox with the BMS drop in.
We suspect at higher power levels we'll see more of a gain from the reduced restriction but I think these results might be a little eye opening for those runnig stock tuning and the GM performance airbox. You'd be better off on power with the stock airbox and our original drop in.
That said we're also moving in to production on our GM performance airbox drop in and will post as soon as those are ready for shipment!

Wow, that's very good data and interesting to see! Stock airbox and BMS Drop In seems to be the best bang for the buck!
I wonder if the delta % will reflect the same on the ZR1 in your testing.

The ZR1 results should be really interesting as it's running more power and isn't tuned.
We'll be test the stock ZR1 filter, BMS drop in, GM airbox w/ GM filter, and GM airbox w/ BMS drop in.

Here's the difference in size between the #84689751 Corvette Racing "Jake" filter and the upgraded Burger Motorsports filter. The BMS filter extends further into the fender for maximum airflow.

How much did your stock ZR1 pick up with the white BMS vs. GM Jake filter?

Hey Terry long time hope all is well. I got out of my Audi and jumped into an 18’ Zl1 1le. Planning on keeping this thing mainly stock and using it on the road course. It did come with a axle back exhaust and a roto fab intake. Any tips on your testing with the intakes/e30 etc on stock mapping to get them running the best? I thought you offered a jb4 but I’m not seeing one on the site.
