Fuel Injector Question, Index 7 vs 10 -
07-25-2016, 07:57 AM
I am looking to buy a set of injectors, what is the difference between the Index 7 versus Index 10. I assume there is some engineering change but Im not sure if the change is significant enough to steer more towards one or the other when taking price into consideration. The two sets Ia m looking are refurbished and warrantied for a year. Just looking for some feedback.
Thanks

11 and 12 seem to be the versions that finally sorted misfires.
Are you modding your car? If yes, I would only be willing to buy 11 or 12

CAr is stock with DCI. THey both come with a 1 year warrranty, I just wasn't sure if the difference between the two i have to choose from were dramatic changes.

you may have to code them in if you install index 10's. If you replace index 7's with new/refurbed index 7's it would be a direct swap. I could be wrong but I believe you have to change the bank or the whole set if you go with index 10 or higher. But as others have stated the best way to go would be to get index 11 or 12, since they finally seemed to have fixed the issues with leaky injectors with those revisions.

I was under the impression that any time new\different injectors are installed, each individual injector needs to be coded according to the fuel flow rate printed on it. Is this not correct?

I could be wrong. I was told by a mechanic that if the index number was the same the replacement injector would not need to be coded in

Thank guys, I purchased a set of (6) index 9 for $340 shipped. come with a one year warranty. For that price and warranty I roll the dice. I'll be downloading the software to program the injectors. from what ive seen looks pretty simple.
Thanks

Would you mind updating this thread when you install them? I'm looking at getting these same ones on ebay.
I'm curious about the different indexes too. Obviously -01 through -07 were part of the recall, but does anyone have a lot of history on the -11 and -12s? What I mean is that how do we know that these don't have the same lifetime/failure rate as the others? Are they working just fine because they're new and haven't had the age/miles put on them yet?

Wrong. You need to do the coding for any injector that you swap in using the values printed on that particular injector. It's easy in INPA. For the benefit of the community, let's not spread misinformation.

I bought 3 of these refurbished index 9's off eBay. Within 3months one was leaking and I've just replaced it. I've contacted them to find out what they actually "refurbish" and what the process is. Expecting them to be ultrasonic cleaned or something. They didn't have a clue I quote "we use a third party company to do the refurb all we know is they come back and look like new". That gives me the impression they put new seals on the bottom and clean the outside of the injector not very good if they can't tell you what the actual process is that is carried out. I think it is pot luck whether you get a good used injector with a new seal or a bad one with a new seal personally.

Good info.
Since they claim to offer a 1 year warranty, how did they handle the situation when you had one fail? Did they exchange it?

You don't NEED to code the injectors it's just a really good idea to. If you don't believe me do an injector swap and drive your car around for awhile. Then code it and tell me if you notice the difference

As I'm from the UK and they are based in the USA it wasn't worth my time to pursue a refund or exchange. Return postage of the one faulty injector would have been more than my refund. I just put it down to experience unfortunately. I rolled the dice with them as they was cheap anyway. I may of been unlucky who knows, but the answers I got off them did not fill me with confidence. Needless to say I didn't purchase anymore off them.

Sure, just like you don't NEED to change your oil. You won't notice a difference driving around on oil that hasn't been changed in 20k miles so let's recommend to the people that don't know that it's "a really good idea" to change your oil that you don't NEED to.
Sure you can drive around without coding the new injectors if you have to, but your post isn't helping people, it's actually making it sound like the coding is optional. But I guess it is, just like changing your oil is optional.

That makes sense. Unfortunate you got a bad one. Hopefully the others hold up better than that.

Not really a good argument. I would argue that the coding is optional....

It's already been done. Find the thread where people tried purposefully coding different flow values into the car to trick the DME into providing more fuel....it didn't work.
