E85 without resetting adaptations? -
03-14-2017, 07:12 PM
So my car has been garged all winter doing some upgrades ( OCC, Intercooler, DP's, body upgrades etc,) and just before I parked it for the winter I decided to run some e85.
Car already has a JB4 with E85 MHD Backend Flash.
I put in about a 30% mixture with 94 octane fuel for the rest of the tank.
The car actually ran worse than it did before the E85.
Of course I didn't log anything, because it was the last 2 runs of the season, so I clocked maybe 40kms with a few WOT's.
I'm trying to understand if I needed to do a 1-7 on the dash to reset adaptations before running the E30 mix?
Should that be done everytime you change fuel types?
Appreciate any knowledge or feedback on this, as I am still learning.
Thanks,

If I change the ethanol content by moe than 20%, I flash a different map, and reset O2 adaptations.

Thanks for the reply.
Would flashing an E85 Back end flash and putting in 30% Ethanol mix and not resetting adaptations cause the car to perform worse?
If so, which adaptations exactly should I be resetting? Just O2?

I would take some logs as your first step. post them back here. anything else is speculation at this point.
You should not have to do a adaptation reset for the car to run right, but wouldn't hurt.
I have run ethanol for years and there's been plenty of times I've had to fill up with only pump 91/93 octane and run that for 10-20 miles until I can get to an E85 gas station, and never had an issue at all doing so. Nor had an issue going back to ethanol mix afterwards. Basically, never had the car run poorly when transitioning to more or less/none ethanol. This is my experience when running JB4 only, as well as JB4 + MHD stock turbo E85 flash.
