I've always just used Mobile1 0-40 and never had an oil related issue on the 6 or so N54s we've owned. It's cheap and easy to get.

Renewable Lubricants Bio-SynXtra SAE 5W40 Heavy Duty Super High Performance absolutely annihilated the competition in several post-interval lab tests on turbo/DI motors. It's not cheap, but after reading the lab tests, I couldn't ask for better.

As Terry said, my Porsche came with Mobil1 0W-40 and I've carried that over to my BMW. Walmart 5 quart jugs are about $25

Good thing M1 is cheap. Because cheap is the name of the game with engine oil. M1 isn't very great with the demands of a turbo/DI motor, you guys might want to have analysis done.

I'm in the process right now of having mine sent off at intervals, going to see if I can push my change intervals back to 10,000 miles.

Did you notice the Mobil1 0-40 isn't BMW LL-01 rated anymore? I still use it assuming the reason is political not technical....

I have run Mobil1 0W-40 in every car I have owned and I have done several UOA's and it has always performed great. I have run and Tested T6 and it did very well. I started with Castrol 0W-30 and it did not handle hold up nearly as well as the Mobil1 in a 1500 mile OIC, it was were the Mobil1 was after 4000 miles. All my cars are turbocharged. My boss also owns a few Porsches and runs M1 0W40 and has never had an issue.

But more important than the oil you choose (as long as you run the right "weight"), is how often you change it. Most brand name oil now days are pretty good so if you are doing normal oil change intervals you won't have a problem. But if you like to stretch your intervals then you better pick a quality oil that will last.

Mobil one has a $12 rebate on 5qts going on now, bringing the cost down to about $10 ($22.88 - $12) for 5 qts.

Quote:
To receive your rebate, simply complete the form below and upload your purchase receipt(s) (from participating retailers only) dated between August 1, 2016, and October 31, 2016, with eligible purchases circled. Mobil has been offering this rebate every year in the Spring, this is the first time I've seen it in the fall as well. I've always received the rebate checks quickly, no issues ordering from Amazon or Walmart.

Amsoil 5w-40 European formula. Not cheap, but neither is my engine. Just had to add 1/2 qt. at 8000 miles.

My wife's Toyota uses no oil between changes. (97K on the clock)
