Default JB4 from 2018 M550 G30 on 2019 M850 - 05-20-2020, 06:20 PM

Hey friends,

I was wondering if there's a tutorial on how to get the M550 on an M850. G14 M850 is coming in next week and I'd like to do the transfer. I used to have this on an F12 S63 with a BCM module, but then went to G30 and BCM was no longer a thing. I know you guys were also working on a new harness. Mine only has connections into intercoolers. I would totally pay for a new harness (unless I can use the BCM from the S63).

Please let me know
John

Just remove the BCM from the harness. It should work. Thats what I did. Make sure you get the firmware from Terry. I recently purchased a new G30 harness as I needed the EWG connectors. Will be testing it very soon

Hey that sounds like what I need to do. Where'd you get the harness from? Link? I'd like to get one by the time the car gets delivered (next week?)

Each car usually has a unique system so best off selling the wrong system and buying the correct one for your new vehicle if the system is in fact different. PWG and EWG systems are not interchangeable and the G chassis N63R runs a double EWG setup similar to the F90 M5.

Hes looking to put it on an N63B though. He has the N63R system. Are the B and the R the same?

Not familiar with the N63B name. There are three JB4 part numbers each using a separate system. N63, N63TU, and N63R. Maybe N63B is another name for N63TU.

My impression was that G15 M850 has N63R, while my G30 M550 has a N63TU2 (which is where my JB4 was installed). The JB4 had 2x connections in TMAP sensors on both intercoolers and an OBD2 connection.

Can I run the same harness on G15 M850?

M850 has 530hp N63tu3, 2018-19 M550i has 460hp N63tu2 which is also known as N63R on Gxx 750i 450hp (minor differences I'm guessing), 2020 M550i also has 530hp n63tu3

So now the question for you is, is tu2 JB4 compatible with tu3?

The TU3 is the N63B. The 523hp one. The N63R is the TU2 with 456hp. That’s according to the BMW ETK.

What we call the JB4 N63R covers all those newer models. The in between years like 2014-2017 550i use our N63TU hardware.

Beyond that if you need help determining which system to order you can always send in a photo of the engine bay for us to confirm which product you need for which specific car.

I stand corrected. The 19 M850 I'm getting tomorrow is an N63TU3 like sheharyar_rr mentioned. It seems that there are little to no differences in engine architecture between N63TU2 (from my M550) and N63TU3. TU3 has bigger turbos and beefed up internals. I will take a picture of the engine bay when I take delivery of the vehicle tomorrow. Pretty confident my current harness would work fine on it, it only has TMAP connectors.

At one point Terry I believe you guys were working on adding support for EWG. Did you ever release a harness with TMAP and EWG for N63? I'd love to give it a shot if that's the case.

Hey Terry,

Here's a picture of the engine bay:
20200527_141029.jpg - Google Drive

How can I purchase a harness from you that has both EWG and TMAP connectors? Is it compatible with my current JB4 that came from N63TU2?

Thank you

No MAF sensor = N63R. The board and harness are different, so best to sell what you have and buy the correct one for your vehicle.

That's an N63 system so it's technically compatible with the N63R if you load N63R firmware but won't have EWG control. Since you already have it might as well install it, not everyone needs EWG control.

Is getting EWG as simple as adding something like this? https://burgertuning.com/products/n5...arness-adapter

Or do I need a new harness? Or harness and hardware?

In a previous conversation we had a few months ago over email I believe you said the harness would be compatible with my hardware - that's the only reason I keep going back and forth. If you have a completely new board for the N63R, I'm not opposed to purchasing that and selling the one I have, just don't see a reason to purchase another JB4 if the one that I have can be made to work with EWG.

In theory you could add in two of those, may need to extend the wires to actually reach your EWG connections.

The board is the same, JB4 mobile adapter is the same, it's the harness that is different. Not trying to force you to buy an entire system but at the same time rigging older systems for newer models isn't anything we support either. So you'd be mostly on your own for that front.

Could sell you a new harness for $250 and call it a day.

Question for you fine folks. I would like to run ******* ********* on the N63TU3 (was informed by ARM Motorsports that this solution works on N63TU3 specifically on the M850i BMW G30 M550i N63R *********

Seems like a rather inexpensive solution. Combined with the JB4 with EWG, and a tune to delete the CEL message for having ******* *********, is there anything else I should consider? Anything that might bite me in the ass if I go down this route? Seems fairly straightforward to get some decent gains.

Should I consider a full-on backend flash as well? (I would rather not go that far)

Your thoughts are much appreciated!

I would make sure they've actually test fit those on an N63TU3. According to the BMW ETK, the *** for the TU2 and TU3 are not the same.

Also see if they offer a coated version. Heat kills N63s even in stock form. You need to keep that heat in the ***** and not in the engine bay. Plus, the longer the gas stays hot the longer the velocity stays up, which is a good thing. I wouldn't even consider *** on a hot V motor without a ceramic coating.

I'm not going to get into the legality issues. I'm sure you know them. EPA, Fines, Impound, etc.

Thank you for making me aware of the legality issues... I live in Michigan and virtually everyone and their mother modifies their exhaust. Didn't know it was federal law, and I didn't even consider the implications. Sounds like high flow is the way to go.
