Default Ford o2 Sensors on N54 (They Work) - 03-06-2019, 11:42 PM

I thought i would share this with everyone,

Im not sure if this has been mentioned before but its new to me..

our local N54 guys have been installing FORD Motorcraft o2 Sensors part # DY-1184 for bank 1 and bank 2 (the ones that connect beside the valve cover to the harness)

on the Single turbo DOC kit the wire harness is long enough
not sure about the other kits tho

and accordingly they work with no codes and read well, AFR Trims and all..

the cost for each is around $60

what do you guys think?

not sure about the life expectancy especially on a ST setup

Ford doesn't make O2 sensors. It's just a major manufacturers with Ford labeling. Like my VDO water pump has a BMW symbol and PN on it.

It's a "Bosch" LSU4.9 wideband. Literally any one from any car will work unless they changed the plug.

True, but there are Bosch 4.2, 4.9, and ADV sensors. I think its important to know which ones these are to make sure they are calibrated properly. What do they come out of? I think 4.9 came out in 09 and ADV more recently.

True.

Look at the picture again.

Ford Emblem
Ford part number
Bosch part number
Bosch emblem

Type the Bosch part number into Google

PAH!

A reverse lookup of the Ford part number will tell you what it goes in. Minus pigtail length every 4.9 sensor I've every actually seen is exactly the same. I used a "VW" one as a replacement sensor for my PLX wideband in my Mitsu. Was like $40.

So you are for sure that the Motorcraft o2 Sensors part # DY-1184 fit directly onto an 08 E60 535i N54? Do these work for all 4 sensors? Just the upstreams? Just the downstreams? They have the same connector? No splicing needed?

both upstream sensors, the bottom ones are different

yes the connector is the same, and the sensor will fit also.. but according to wiring it depends if you need to extend or not.

on single turbo DOC kits on 335 and 135 no extension needed, but for twins i think you should

here is a video to help you get a clear picture regarding wire extension, you can use your old sensor wiring as they are the same diameter and ohm tolerance

My understanding of this is you should not splice wideband sensors. Reasons being is a wideband (5-wire) sensor connector has a resistor that is calibrated to the wide band output in the plug. Splicing to use your existing connector would result in a improper sensor calibration. While it will work the AFR readings to the ECU might be incorrect. I am not sure by simple just extending the wires using the same connector would be an issue but I would not risk it.

Also Bosh makes a lot of LSU4.9 wideband sensors, more than likely the "DY-1184" is not the only sensor that will work. BOSCH 17098 can be used for both banks the part number difference is for different cable length. I just bought some NTK O2s to replace all my senors. A lot of ST guys went with NTK seems as though its a high quality sensor that also last longer and corrected a lot of users issues from ADV. If you are looking for replacements I did all 4 for under 200 just need to look for the deals.

I have a E61 so they are going to be Slightly different aka Wire Lengths but just go in the NTK/NGK site via Part lookup and it will provide the part numbers.

u can always upgrade to single turbo and not have to deal with two seprate o2 sensors. Or just extend the engine harness so it will reach
Did that on a buddy's car and worked out fine instead of messing with the o2s harness
