Default Engine wobbles but car idles fine and runs good. - 07-20-2016, 11:48 PM

Hey guys, so my friends car is a 2007 335i coupe and it's been giving us a tough time. Long story short previous owner was a scumbag.

We replaced the following..
( ALL PARTS REPLACED WITH OEM ITEMS ONLY )
- Spark plugs
- Injectors (programmed too)
- HPFP
- Fuel Pressure Sensor
- Engine Wire Harness
- Water Pump / Thermostat / Hoses
- Upgraded intercooler and turbo inlets (i forget the brand, but it's very popular)
- JB4 with the map setting at 0. (Might try putting a map on)
- Cleaned throttle body, replaced all vacuum lines, and checked grounds.
- Oil pan gasket
- Front crank seal
- Serpentine belt
- OFHG
- Lightweight flywheel
- Reset fuel adaptations

Is there anything I couldve overlooked? We ordered new motor mounts and they came in today so I'm going to install it. I really don't think its a motor mount issue though. Yes I'll be doing a compression test as soon as I pick the tool up.

The car is running great though, pulls hard and strong. Just feels sorta "rumbly" and in comparison to my friends virgin 335, I can set a tall glass of wine on it and not expect it to spill.

Mine do sometimes same when idling, its quite common in N54 engines. You could try to do wallnut blasting, it helped little bit for me. Root cause is unknown...

Hey man.

You never know what the previous owner did or what happened to the car. I'd try starting with flashing the ECU back to stock. Get an android device and a KAN cable and use the MHD app to reflash your ecu back to stock. Let's see what happens then.

Stop giving it wine and it won't wobble

I'd have to agree on this, I've never seen one, or even a post about one until this, wobbling. The n54 is actually a very smooth sitting engine when running.

If by wobbles you mean random hiccups when the car is idling then it's quite common. Most people don't notice it but a lot of cars do suffer with it.
Some cars even do this straight from the factory, no amount of part replacing will solve it.

My car does it with the stock ECU map. But I've completely eradicated it on my custom tune by reducing the VANOS overlap at idle and making the fuel targets richer at idle (13.7~ AFR).

Mine physically idles solid as a rock. Idle rpm fluctuates a tiny amount occasionally, but I haven't done a walnut blast in probably 40k miles at this point.

Get your valves cleaned. Inspect the mounts.

Any codes? Put the JB in map 1 and log the car at idle to see if anything sticks out.

I know you replaced the flywheel, but maybe there is something wrong with the aftermarket part such as being off balance. My dmfw failed and was making my car shake quite noticeably. It could also be a failed harmonic balancer (crank pulley), although it's super uncommon anything is possible. Those two issues would cause exactly the type of shaking you have mentioned. Good Luck!

Agree with the it should be very smooth group. My 335is was set to 410whp & had a very steady idle. Eventually got a little shaky. A Walnut Blast & a few replaced injectors brought it back to smooth.
