What is menu12 set to in dash?
Hi Terry

thanks for the response - and sorry for the confusion. Actually now the 3166 doesn't occur at all after disconnecting the MAP.

Ran it in MAP0 for a while and then went to MAP 5 about middle of February. Good news is the 3166 went away. Bad news is now getting 387F all the time and also the 2C90, 28A0, 36C9 and sometimes the dreaded half engine light and the 2C57 reduced power mode/ boost disable. The SES light rarely comes on. It wasn't even on when the half engine light was one.

In MAP 0 always showing these codes 387F and 2C90 but no CEL/MIL.

is menu 12 the base duty cycle for the waste gate? Is there a way to check that with the mobile app?

Re: 387F. With the car off in a quiet garage. Listen for a humming noise. You might have the dreaded waterpump problem where the waterpump is on with the car off. The fix is to reroute power for the JB4.

mfromani, you are not alone.

I disconnected the MAP piggyback and put it back to stock. I re-routed power to the boost solenoid and I no longer get the 3166 code.

However, 28A0 and 2C90 are now constant.

I'm just frustrated at certain issues not being addressed globally when multiple users report the same issues.

Mishmosh

Thanks - not sure if I completely understand. When you say "the car is off" do you mean no key / fob in the car? I do hear a high pitched whine with power on the car but engine not running. I don't think it's the water pump tho, seems more towards the top of the engine, not the bottom.

Where to reroute power? JB4 installed as per the directions.

Ok, I'm still having the same issue others are. I'd like to put as much info out as possible so whoever needs it has it.

My car: 2013 135is, stock except for JB4 w/ connect kit, and ER charge pipe, still on factory flash w/ PPK, and updated to latest firmware.

Issues:

All JB4 connections installed: consistent 3166, 387f codes with occasional tuner codes, triggering SES light. Happens everytime the car is warmed up when started from cold. Happens in every map except 0.

All JB4 connections except stock MAP: Random 28A0, occasional 387f, and tuner codes, triggering SES light. Happens more randomly but still everytime the car is driven. Happens in all maps except 0.

Menu 12 is set to default.

re: 387f. E series ISO can have waterpump running even with the car off. There is a power wire bypass fix that I did that fixed this. Before the fix, I could hear a hum from underneath the car with the car off for several hours. Never drained the battery badly unless it was winter but the voltage was really low. Alternatively, some have wired their JB4 to a constant 12V on source by mistake.

re: 3166. So I unplugged connected the stock MAP connector back with nothing connected to the JB4 MAP connectors. Update: --> 28A0 and the usual 2C90

I'm having the same issue as @CTM95. I updated my JB4 to 5_17 ISO and started getting 3166 and 2C90. These tripped the SES light within 30 miles. This morning I changed menu 12 from 2800 to 2400. I still got the same codes and eventually the SES. Is the accepted solution to swap the MAP sensor connection back to stock? It seems like other people are getting different codes and an SES light when they do this.

Test putting brown connection back to stock and let me know if makes any difference.

At least for me, with stock MAP connected, I get 28A0 now instead of 3166. I have always had 2C90, so that is unchanged. The 28A0 does not seem to trip a check engine light on the dash though so I think that's preferrable to the 3166.

As long as I don't get a CEL and can pass emissions in map 0, I'm fine with that. I am planning on returning my MAP sensor to stock, but I haven't gotten a chance to yet. Will report findings once I get around to it.

Well, a couple of times now, the 28A0 triggers the dash check engine light. I would not say it's any less frequent than 3166. Maybe even more frequent.

Is there any way to flash it back to the last non-ISO firmware? This has been a never ending saga of trouble shooting codes.

I pulled the entire JB4 so I could pass inspection. Need to have all readiness monitors green and no dash lights on in NJ.

I miss the power but, honestly, I was kind of fed up with all the codes and inconsistency of the JB4. Looking at options now.

+1. If I wasn't already invested, I would not be purchasing and installing a JB4...

So is everyone with the 3166 code still on the stock DME flash? Or has anyone moved to some sort of BEF and then found the 3166 to to not occur anymore? I'm considering pulling out my DME and sending it out for a bench flash and then loading the BMS pump BEF. It would be great if a BEF had the extra benefit of eliminating the 3166 code.

Stock flash. My DME has since been unlocked but I have not loaded MHD yet.

Thanks for the response. It sounds like you'll soon ditch the JB4 and go flash only, but if for some reason you ever try JB4+BEF, it would be interesting to learn if it had some effect (or not) on the 3166 code.

Out of curiosity is everyone else that's having this issue using the Connect Kit?

I never had this issue on my old 135i and the only difference is the firmware and the connect kit.

I got the Connect Kit at the same time I got the JB4 (3 years ago), and I've never run the the JB4 without it.
