Default Register new AGM Battery - 12-04-2018, 12:02 AM

Hi everyone, I've really already used the search function but unfortunately can't find my answer. Can I register a new AGM Battery with the reset Battery Adaption or is this only necessary for standard batteries?
Grettings from Germany.

You should be able to register via MHD.

Does that work ? Jb4 also has it. Seems like a simple reset. Not like the actual registration process of amperage, type of batt, cca, etc.or does it somehow read the battery perhaps ??

You can register in either, however the car has to be coded for AGM if it's not already.

I think it's registered to AGM. What does the JB4 do when resetting the battery adaptation? Thank You

Registering a battery in a BMW is a 2 step process.

The battery type and capacity is written to the CAS module. IF the same type and size battery is used, this step can be skipped.

The DME uses this information, and the recorded detailed history of the battery's age, state of charge, charging cycles and at rest discharge to control the alternator's output. This history must be cleared when a new battery is installed, the 2nd step.

Because the JB4 only interfaces with the DME, I would imagine using the reset feature in the JB4 would clear the charging history stored in the DME. If it resets the date, I have no idea. Resetting the date is important because the age of the battery is part of the charging equation.

No matter how fast I go there's always someone slower in front of me.
