@alexis485 are you planning on changing the cams?
No aftermarket cams for N55 yet. I was hoping for VAC / Schrick to realeases upgraded cams but, I don't see it happening any time soon.

Default 6HP19 Built Trans - 03-28-2018, 01:16 PM

While we wait for the crank hub. I decide to work on the transmission.

I was debating in between getting my AT build or DCT swap. Like most of you know, the DCT swap is pretty expensive. For that reason I choose to build my current AT.

BTW, Propulsive Dynamics is not doing the AT builds anymore. They were selling just the clutch set until last week. Apparently, they have no plans on making more.

Anyhow, I talked to Alex@ABR about it and he didnt hesitate to do the work. So far, I got PD clutches and bushings.

Also, all trans internal parts (input shaft, basket, etc) has gone thru deep cryogenic process to increase strength and durability.

Yesterday, I received the torque converter back from TCR. They increased the stall to 2800-3000.

I haven't heard but my guess would be that the customer base was not large enough.

Default Transmission Oil Cooler - 04-10-2018, 08:38 AM

I couldn't find much information on the trans cooler so, I decide to make my own kit. In case some else wants to follow my steps, here a list of parts I bought out of Ebay.

Setrab Oil Cooler 50-625-7612
Setrab M22 to -8AN Male Adapter, 90 Deg
Improved Racing Thermostat FSM-165
Russell -10AN Twist-Lok Hose - 10 ft
Vader Solutions Trans Fittings -8AN (Plugs into the factory cooler lines)
Russell Straight -8AN Twist-Lok Fittings
Russell 90 Deg-8AN Twist-Lok Fitting
Russell 45 Deg -8AN Twist-Lok Fitting

Also, I'll make a custom bracket. I'll include post installation pictures later.

Interested in this trans cooler, subbed. FYI thank you sir you helped me with something I had been struggling with regarding my plan for an upgraded oil cooler setup. I had been researching options for an inline external oil thermostat but wasn't finding what I was looking for at first, but when I saw this trans cooler post you led me to Improved Racing's site and they seem to have what I been looking for to make this work. I didn't want to completely bypass the OEM oil cooler thermostat like most DIYs/Kits for N54/N55 I've seen out there. I just wanted find an alternative to open at a lower temp vs. stock + upgrade to AN fittings and bigger cooler so that meant going external thermostat since I couldn't find an aftermarket themostat that worked in the factory oil thermostat housing (at least one that said what temperature it opens at). You helped me figure that out I think. Thanks man

You are more than welcome, I'm glad I was able to help. :)

BTW, I just saw BMP is selling the trans lines AN fitting adapter for way less.Click at the link

Default PR Ignition Kit - 04-11-2018, 09:19 AM

Early birthday present came in. Here is the N55 Precision Receworks Ignition kit. Hopefully, this kit will allow me to run higher plug gap. Previously, I didn't have any other chioce to run a pretty tight gap (0.017-0.018) to prevent misfires when I was running PS2 at 25psi on straight E85.

Name: PR Coils1.jpg
Views: 1006

Also, I really like that PR move the kit installation location. Now, they suppose to be installed on top of intake manifold. That should take away any heat damage concerns specially for people running top mount turbo kits.

Size: 119.2 KB

Stay tuned. I'm planning to do a DIY as soon as I get my car.

Hey man im rebuilding my engine at mmp after i spun a bearing.

Will you do forged rods and pistons ?
I live in cold climate so.im afraid of piston slap and also it could enhance false knock it seems....

Forged rods have no downsides so im getting them

Let me know

I would get forged rod and pistons if I was you. I blew my motor a while ago when I was running a maxed out PS2. The shop found the problem was the piston in cylinder #4 disintegrated.

I'm not an expert on piston slap matter but, I asked the shop about it right before starting this project. They told me that is critical for them. A good shop is aware of this problem and they will avoided as much as possible. First, they should complete the honing process, then ordered the custom pistons to maintain the proper piston-cylinder wall clearance. In other words, every built should used custom pistons. Now, piston slap is possible on cold weather but, you could get them coated to minimize or combat any downside of running wider clearances. That's my 2 cents!

I'd get forged rods too if I rebuilt my m2's n55. I live in Canada and in the winters it gets to -35C or sometimes even -40C or colder with a wind-chill. Anyways from what I learned through Subaru engines is that the forged internals expand and contract alot more than the oem Pistons due to less silicon content. The issue with this is if the clearances are too tight then the expansion will cause too much rubbing on the cylinder walls and increased wear. So I always used a block heater in the winter to aid in warm up to prevent the piston slapping from occuring too long. But I'm not sure if this is available on bmws.

Anyways if you don't mind me asking, howd you spin the bearings on your n55?

Thanks

I did a 3rd gear pull while spraying meth after i just installed pure stage 2 turbo.... ( like 9th pull after install ) and BOOM engine malfunction....engine sputtered and i had timing codes and a #1 cylinder sparkplug melted....

I fixed timing chain, tensionner and crank hub.....

Car ran fine for 3 days than spun a bearing...

I hope engine builder can tell me why it happened...

So i can get forged pistons for dirt cheap if i add forged rods too ( 2k $ for both ) or get oem pistons for 1500$ ...

You rly think forged pistons are not good or i should pay prenium for new oem ones ?

The shop that "fixed" his timing chain when it jumped timing screwed up during the installation and the oil pump wasn't working properly.
