Default How reliable are 135i's from 2011-2013 (N55 engine) - 07-07-2020, 12:10 AM

I think I've pretty much decided on the E82 as the base for my "fun" track day car. Just wondering if anyone can share any personal anecdotes or experience with maintaining these cars and if you had any issues along the way? Do the later models like 2012 and 2013 have less problems? Also any experience with the DCT transmission being problematic?

N55 has fewer issues than N54 but there are always a few.

If you track the car, especially tuned, you will probably need some cooling upgrades like oil cooler, FMIC, especially for the smaller 135. Same goes for the DCT, which BMS makes a good heatsink for. DCT is pretty reliable as long as you aren't pushing extreme torque.

Look for a 135is. Has upgraded cooling, etc.
