JB4 For 2019 Hyundai Veloster N -
04-09-2019, 07:25 PM
Last month I became the proud new owner of a 2019 Veloster N. I had my first oil change and now have just over 4k miles on the odometer (thanks to a long road trip). I noticed the jb4 supports the Veloster N but did not see any posts for the car specifically. Are there any other Veloster N owners here?
@Terry - In the sticky thread you mentioned you were looking for test car owners. If the offer is still open, I'd be interesting in helping
Thanks!

We've seen enough logs now to know it works well, but you guys can keep them coming and we'll continue working on refinements for it.

Mine just arrived, waiting for the weather to clear. I’d rather post progress here than use the huge sticky thread. Perhaps this one can be stickied to cover just the VN and i30N.

I'm having issues with logging (BMS cable). I've been working on a custom map 6 configuration. Sometimes after changing and saving user adjustment settings, it won't capture a log.
I use a small netbook, making sure a connection to the JB4 is first established, then use the "Log Heavy Throttle Only" option and start driving. After I make my pulls, I park somewhere and stop the log to review it.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, changing to other maps and back to map 6, closing and restarting the application, logging raw data only, increasing upload timeout from 5 to 7, all to no avail.
It seems like the OBD-II connection is broken during pulls. Very frustrating and I don't really want to change any settings since I want to log them as they currently are.
Attached is a recent capture when logging was working.
On a similar note, when logging is working with default PIDs, if I add IAT to the set of PIDs, logging then fails to capture.
While we're on the subject, I'd like to be able to define my own set of custom PIDs to log, since some of the default PIDs are not needed, such as cyl5, cyl6, WGDC (I would like to see data for this one), Fuel Pressure High (ditto, want to see this data), average advance, AFR_2. Perhaps capturing too many PIDs simultaneously is the root cause of logging failure.

What you select in the app has no effect on how logging works. The JB4 spits out all pids to the app regardless of your app selection. The app selection only determines what you view in the app charting software.
If CANbus is stopping during runs you could try turning off cyl 2-4 timing monitoring under FutureUseD options to see if that has any effect, as that would reduce CANbus traffic.

Setting bit4 to on to disable cyl2-4 monitoring has helped, thanks.

On another topic, I'd like to experiment with FF (what does this stand for, anyway?) and duty bias (WGDC). Is that available to us yet?
Another thing is fuel bias should be extended down to at least 2000 RPM. Depending on what gear I'm in, when punching the throttle below 3000 RPM I'm sometimes seeing fairly significant lean spikes as boost quickly ramps up. Usually low-mid 15s but sometimes as high as 16s.

Adjusted v9 firmware so fuel pressure, water temp, and road speed appear in the logging. Previously they were missing.
FF, duty bias, pid gain, not active yet. They related to electronic wastegate control.
On fuel bias it's not active anyway unless manually adjusting fuel offsetting and that is only done to lean the mixture out, not richen it up. Lean spool logic is built in to the ECU and perfectly normal. Expect to see AFR readings in the 16s for a moment due to lean spool mode and as sensor reading catches up.

Done & done. FPH already helped me address a fuel pressure drop between 4000-4500. Good stuff.

My JB4 just came in. Going to try and install it tomorrow after work along with one step colder plugs. I do have some questions about the install though... space seems very limited and there is no guide (that I've found) for the N. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not today, but I dyno’d bone stock about 2.5 months ago. Will post a composite dyno graph when I’m free.

Hello Terry,
I just ordered the JB4 and its on the way, on MAP 1 will i need to get colder spark plugs like you do with the 3.3?
Also I have intake and turbo inlet adapter coming ..will that all still fall under MAP 1 ? and im sure the JB4 will adjust to the intake added
Thanks for the help, look forward to installing this.

Should be okay for map 1 if you have lower miles. What fuel will you be using? Post logs once installed!

We need to make a Veloster specific guide one of these days. Post some photos here and that will remind us to do it. But install is really easy, the two boost sensors are easy to access..
