Hi

first post, fitted my 2nd hand JB4 today to my non PP 7.5.
Went up the road for a run in map 1, all went well, pulling well.
Returned home and noticed ‘last safety’ was showing a 2, AFR lean. I don’t know if this was present when i first connected via laptop and the unit remained on map 1. Also no CEL.
Also read codes and showing 431A, was able to clear OK and it hasn’t come back after another map 1 run.
My question is could the last safety relate to the previous owners car as it’s a 2nd hand JB4?

Means AFR was detected to be lean at full throttle at some point. Maybe from a previous owner if it's not changing to map0 on you. If you need addl tuning help just post a JB4 log.

Does the AFR tap need to be connected for the JB4 to watch the AFR for safety?

No, the AFR Tap is used to alter the AFR targeting. If its not connected to see actual AFR you need to make the Fuel bias values 0 so the JB4 knows not to do a correction.

What conditions does the JB4 need to see before lean safety is triggered? What does the JB4 do when the safety is triggered? Does it switch to Map 8?

It is timed based and needs to be above 15:1 for what I think its set as half a second. Safety is set from 3500rpm and higher on full load. It will map switch to 8. 99% of the time it will map switch before the ECU gives a B1S1 high voltage fault for lean.
