N63 tips and trick -
03-11-2020, 07:42 AM
Here goes nothing...
I have purchased some bolt ons for my 2013 msport 550xdrive.
Arm ******* *********
Arm intake
JB4
2 stepcolder ngk iridium plugs (from burger) and new ignition coils
Long story short Im just looking for any tips and tricks for install and potential reliable tunes for the JB4 to get the most out of everything I can reliably. I know thats somewhat of an oxymoron with the N63 but its what ive got and what I wanted so here goes nothing. Obviously there isnt much for info on these because no one wants to work on them but Im a glutton for punishment. I have the install manuals for all parts listed above, just looking for any advice to make it go smoother. Capable of almost any bolt on. Novice tuner at best. Previously had JB4 on N55 and worked great. Not looking to run meth or e85 blend. Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the heads up. Having a tough time finding a 3.5 that fits the n63. There are aftermarket "vdo" options but it doesnt specifically say they are 3.5.... Also I have 4 of them on the n63. Are you refering to intercoolers, intake or all 4? Thanks again

10/4. Ill pick up a couple. Assuming you mean I need to set up JB4 via the sticky thread and update hex files or are you referring to some other "new maps" settings?

And type "b" harness does not need the adaptor? And just to clarify that the website says n55/n54 but these will fit the n63 no?

Type B harness needs sensors only, the sensors are in a type B format.

If anyone viewing this has any questions regarding removal of the factory dp's feel free to ask. Once I get the install finished (was sent the wrong clamps) I will try to post a review of the removal and install. So far the instructions were pretty vague and on my 550xdrive (10/2012 production) it was quite a bit different than the removal/install instructions shown. First tip and trick would be 2 sets of hands to get the stock dp's out and a lift would be much easier than doing it on the floor like I am!! (installing arm ctlss dp's)

I have not got it to the dyno yet. Tey just opened a shop here in town with an all wheel drive dyno that I plan to check out. So far all the mods have been great and it runs like a beast. Only complaint is that it smells really rich after the ctless ********* but i knew that going in. Any other questions feel free to ask but so far so good!

Hey terry@bms Quick question about the "6 cylinder timing" for the N63 JB4. As mentioned in the sticky thread, My boost in bank 1 typically doesnt match my boost in bank 2. Bank 2 is usually a little lower than bank 1. What should I input for that value to get them to match boost? I saw 0, <50 or >50 for the options but I dont quite understand where I would be at maybe somwhere inbetween. Thank you in advance.

I have the issue, I tested that function and it doesn’t seem to work. Tested at 25 and 75 and I still have the same difference between bank 1 and 2.

Why would he need 3.5 map sensors on stock turbos? 3.5 maps are only for pushing above about 21 pounds of boost. He's not gonna get anywhere near that with JB4 on N63 especially without a flash tune.

I didnt end up needing the 3.5 map sensors. However I am exceeding 21psi of boost on stock turbos with the other bolt ons I haven mentioned in this thread all on map 2. (ctls dp's, intake,2 step plugs,jb4) Have you tired the update file for the n63 regarding boost differences? It seemed to help mine dramatically. still a tad off but only .1 or .2. Bout as accurate as you could hope I reckon.

I want to make sure the new map for N63 is working correctly first and is made for the 2011 550 and works perfect with it. I asked for the changelog regarding this new map since it’s not on the first page. Nobody here seems to know the changes made to the new map and for once, my car is running really good, don’t want to mess that up with a map that was pushed to help a few people with a particular problem and could potentially cause problems to others
As for your tmaps, you’re pushing your luck running 21psi on stock tmaps, you’ll start to see dtm’s sonner than later 🤷🏻*♂️
