Default Wheel install question - 05-29-2013, 10:59 AM

Looking for a second opinion here. I got some wheels mounted and balanced last night but noticed the inside of the rim was gouged when I was taking em out of the trunk. The guy at the shop that did the work said this is normal yet I've never seen this before on any of my tires.

Gouges like this in at least 4 spots on every rim, its not just scratched paint the aluminum is gouged right in there. Is this Really normal?

Absolutely not normal... that's someone that doesn't know how to mount a tire properly at all. He probably wasn't familiar on how to mount a low profile tire. Without doing it before its very possible to mess up the rim. Also faulty equipment, what caused the groves it the machine clamping the rim to turn the rim to fit the tire.

Nope not normal. They messed your rims up and now since you left it will be hard to prove they did it. That's why I check every rim before i leave a tire shop.

Thanks for the replys guys. I really didn't believe this was in any way normal. I wanted some other feed back though before I went back to him tonight. I'm not sure what I can do about this I'm thinking I'm probably stuck with it

Good luck, its gonna be hard trying to talk them into getting you new rims. Was it just the one rim or did they all look like that?

Yeah this is looking like its going to be rough going to get anything done. There are at least 4 sets of gouges like in the picture on every single rim. Some not as bad as what's pictured some worse.

Pretty frustrated Took a long while to get these and they look like this before I even get em on the car.

Well thankfully just the inside. Once on the car it wont really be visible. I'll just know its there... hah. I think if that was the outside I wouldn't be so calm about it all.
I went back and talked to the owner he said he would sand down the inside and repaint them. I guess that's the best I can hope for. Its what I was going to do myself anyway.
