Nice to see that Comp is doing it better these days.. I don't know if anyone remembers but back before there were any turbo swaps I was working with Comp on the first set of upgraded oem twins with Garett cartridges, and they dropped the ball big time. I went thru 2 sets of their turbos, one set blew in idle, and the next set on the freeway. They blamed it on the shaft being too small and that they didn't have the capability to test the wheels to the speeds they achieve anywhere near peak boost. I paid for my motor to be dropped 3 times and the labor and they didn't even refund me the money I paid them to build the turbos I had sent them. I really hope you have better luck with them, but that company is dead to me! Those turbos look like they're built well so I'll be waiting for the results with everyone else.

I'm right around $3600 for everything so far. Still need to purchase a Band saw and Engine support bar. But, tools don't count to the turbo build, there an investment beyond that.

Lol, no pills around here. The picture was taken on my wet bar. The Pill looking things are caps for the 1/4 keg tap.

It can be done, you just have to be very careful.

Post up some more pics of your progress! And great job tackling a project like this, that is how you learn.
The Weld I did was just a test to see how the MIG would work. Penetration was pretty good and the strength much more then I expected from a 2.5" weld. I do have access to a TIG welder and will most likely use that, just making sure I had a backup plan if needed.

This will be my first time TIG welding and I have a friend who welds for a living and was planning on giving me some pointers.

Sorry you had a bad experience with them. These turbo's are kinda test turbo's for my later goals. I really want the GTX28XX turbo's but these made for a good priced turbo to experiment with.

Come on meow. It's 3 posts up! You can't just read couple posts and ask questions. You have to at least see if someone else has asked.

Awesome. Can't wait to hear about the progress. I can't stop thinking about how I want to run everything. Wish I had the money to buy everything right now.

How are you going to run the intake piping? I was thinking of following the stock path and have one go around the back of the engine and one around the front. If I do it that way I'm wondering if there would be enough room to run the compressed side higher and to the front. I have tons of questions I think are only going to be answered by me getting the parts and getting the old turbos out and having a hardcore Tetris tournament vs my car.

Not even sure I asked a complete question in the beginning of that last post. Or even relayed any kind of idea about what I was actually thinking. Haha.

Wow thats not any more than RB turbos (after all the BS you have to buy with them). I want to do this for a winter project soon but not sure if i could pull off the custom fabrication...

I'm trying to sell my winter tires/wheels setup and stock hood to fund this. If I can't.... Maybe next winter.

If you can't do the fabrication go ahead and multiply cost by 4 and you will be close to actual turn key cost.

LOL.

Right now I may just go with open filters. That may change as the build progresses. But one things for sure, once I get the stock turbo's out things will become much clearer.
