Default methanol question.. - 04-16-2017, 02:38 PM

what's the benefit of distilled water when mix it with meth, every time i run 100% meth, if i add the water about 30%, what would be the benefits?

100% meth already lower the IAT and rise the octane.

Further knock suppression than meth alone. 50/50 mix is recommended. 100% meth is also extremely flammable.

With distilled water your nozzles won't clog with mineral deposits.

Water cools better then straight methanol.

if i mix 50/50 water meth, what would be the total octane? 100+

on 93 fuel

is there a water + meth octane calculator?

I doubt it would be over 100 octane at 50/50, but of course there are a few variables that would alter your final octane rating. A few things I can think of off the top of my head would be how many nozzles your running, nozzle size, and fuel scalar settings. Most people just log and adjust accordingly to optimize there set up for the fueling demand.

Snow performance claims 116 octane with a 50/50 mix. I think that's quite a reach though.

I believe methanol is something like 107 octane, but there's so many internet sources out there, I don't even know what is accurate. So mixing 50/50 and adding in 93 I'm guessing you'll be closer to 97/98 octane. But as I mentioned before, there are some variables.

meth octane is 98,6 if i mix it 50/50 the octane will be much lower

Definitely a lot of variables, nozzle size being one. But I do believe 50/50 mix actually would have a higher effective octane than meth alone. Water obviously doesn't have an octane rating, but it's the water vapor mixed with the incoming air charge that acts like a high octane fuel (knock suppression).

From my experiences, water is a must for timing, meth is a must for power. In the light of this information you should mix them to some extent and evaluate the best setup which suits your need. I run with m/w 70/30 ratio by weight. Hope this helps.

Reduced cost. Water cools and reduces knock. The reason you run 12.5:1 for gas is to be rich. That produces some cooling and reduces knock. Water was found to be a much cheaper way to achieve the same effect. You could run much leaner than 12.5:1 and replace the fuel removed with just water. However, you have to be prepared for a scenario of the water flow failing. The JB4 should actually be very good at that but how late is too late?

Scientific tests have shown a 75:25 mix produces 95% of the power of a 100% methanol mix.

In that case, straight windshield washer fluid, -20 degree, is a good choice. All the stuff I checked with a hydrometer is between 37% meth (63:37) and 40% meth (60:40). Locally $2.25 a gallon.

Adding water is cheaper than adding meth.

EDIT: Adding 1/2 gallon water to 1 gallon -20 WWF will get you close to that 75:25 mix.

So you are saying 75% WATER to 25% METH? That seems low to me, but I don't know much, hehehe.
