Default F10 M5-How to pass USB extension cable through firewall for JB4 direct OTG connection - 03-13-2018, 08:02 PM

I am trying to pass a USB 10ft extension OTG cable through the firewall to direct connect JB4 unit to an Android phone and bypass the intermittent/unstable JB4 mobile bluetooth module option....

Anyone know how to pass the firewall for a large plug....the USB head is too large to pass in the opening highlighted in pic attached.

Does the grommet come out, and allow you to push the cable through the grommet and then through the firewall?

On the DCT vehicles there is a fabric cover that can be torn off, and there is a hole underneath. Here's a photo of our 2015 M5.

That's great for the driver side, but ideally need a pathway on the passenger side as most folks keep the JB4 there and I end up running the wire outside through the door/window.

Would be nice to run it inside and open the glove compartment when needed.

Not that I am aware of, sorry. Perhaps with a splitter but I'm not sure of that.

I used a generic USB extension for this and ran the wire inside, coiling it in the small net in the passenger footwell, but you could easily run it into the glove box as well if desired.

That's a good approach.. still runs through the hole on the driver side firewall... crosses the engine bay... then crosses again (probably need a good 6-9 feet of cable).

Too bad that orifice in my car is stuffed with multiple meth lines among other things!

Not worried about the holes... I have enough of them (have made several myself). I just never considered running it from the pass side behind the engine bay heat-shied, into the driver footwell and then back to the pass footwell.
