Default Help With Maxed out PWM/WGDC - 11-02-2018, 12:06 PM

Hi all,

Recently my F30 335i has been failing to meet boost targets, and is running about 2 psi under normal (~15 down from 17 to redline). The only thing I have changed as of late is the spark plugs, for which i swapped in ngk 97506, 1 step colder than the stock bosch. Since then boost has been running under target. Additionally, i replaced the pure high flow inlet with the stock one because high flow was leaking where the cut inlet ends and the metal fitting begins. Will try to get that figured out soon, although it is not the cause of my issue because boost started topping off at 14 pounds before swapping out, now it stays at about 15 with the stock inlet.

Took a log to see whats going on and it looks like my wgdc is totally maxed out, which is unusual. Attached are logs from before this issue (boost was holding upwards of 17 lbs and wgdc ~88, good meth numbers) and after (boost topping out at 15 lbs, wgdc maxed, poor meth numbers).

Mod list:
jb4, updated iso firmware, map 3
CAI
no-*** down pipe
full chargepipes
FMIC
DV+
Fuel it Mth PI, BMS pi controller on 80/20 mix
Pure stage 2 with stock inlet (for now)
MHD BEF on BMS RACE map for f series n55
E40 blend

Thank you for your help!

FF looks way below target, I would increase it by 5 and take another log. If it still doesn't meet target increase it another 5.

Looks like a minor boost leak to me.

Looks like that got me an extra half pound and wgdc isnt maxed out all the way to redline which is great! log doesnt read any meth but i can feel it pumping by the vibration in the line, boost is still lower than usual though. here's a log

Just got it back from pressure testing earlier this week, tech is certain there is no boost leak now that the stock inlet is back in...

At least you're hitting target boost some now. It still spools really slow and you're off target by 5 psi on the top end. Some of that is natural top end boost taper, but it shouldn't be that much.

Is your car PWG or EWG? If it's PWG, you might try replacing the pressure converter.

As for your Pure inlet leak, I wrapped mine with several back and forth windings of silicone tape to seal it where the stock inlet and Pure inlet are joined, then put the clamp on it. It leaked before that and I couldn't use it to pressure test. Now the inlet holds at least 30 psi, allowing me to pressure test with it.

Slow spool has been an issue since the PS2 got put in, i suppose thats an underlying issue.

My car is PWG, so the pressure converter sounds like a good lead although I'm not seeing any of the symptoms of a bad pressure converter except dropping boost, but for $150 its probably worth a shot huh?

Also silicone tape on the inlet is exactly what I was thinking of too, great to see it worked for someone else!

Just put in a new pressure converter, car feels just about the same. Took a log and heres what i'm finding:

WGDC still maxes out halfway through the pull, meth starts up before WGDC hits 100 but then dips away as soon as its maxed out. No meth = severe boost taper, down to 15 lbs at redline from target @ 20.

Any thoughts on lowering PWM??

Tried going back to straight 91 oct on a friends suggestion that the e85 was cancelling out the cooling benefit of the meth, but everything still looks about the same as before...

Also the JB4 showed a low fuel pressure safety after a bit of stuttering in mid rpm in 5th or 6th gear, so does HPFP pressure look good on this log?

Thanks!!

Running E85 and methanol together is not going to "cancel out" anything. You HPFP looks fine. Steve (Fuel-IT) said that for the newer HPFP it will crash more suddenly unlike the older style where you will see it slowly dip until it fails.

It still looks like you have a boost leak. If you're running methanol it isn't spraying.
