Looking to get a 2011 335i with the N55 engine. I've heard that the N54 is more tuner friendly, but it is prone to having issues with maintenance and reliability. I've heard that the N55 is less tuner friendly, but more reliable. Is the N55 engine still pretty bad in the reliability department in the grand scheme of things? I don't have any BMW experience before my current car. It's a 2014 N55 F30. I've owned it for 2 years. Car was immaculate, currently it's got 124k miles and putting down 430 HP.

I did my research and first thing was to replace any weak points for the EWG motors. Charge pipe, ********, turbo inlet pipe, diverter valve and hpfp.

Aside from that just stay within your budget. Always take care of the weak points and you'll be fine.

N55 Engine has mainly these problems
1.Valve Cover Oil Leak
2.Water Pump Failure
3.Leaking Oil Filter Housing Gasket
4.VANOS Solenoid Failure
5.High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure (HPFP) – Mostly older models.
