Thanks that makes sense now.

In the beginning I'd always used the bin straight from the download and had no issues but using MHD explains it.

I now modify my bin to account for my DCT transmission, the MAP voltage and the O2 sensors.

I actually didn't realise that there were BB specific and MHD specific bin files.

D'oh!

Great move deleting method 2 and linking in a guide for method 3. This will help a lot of folks!

Many probably miss that Torque Monitor Ceilings shall not be changed for MHD use. I for one missed that and just followed Method 1 and thought I killed my drivetrain when I hit the stock ceilings on the first pull (car went into "hellalimp"!).

Got to the bottom of this I think. I ended up modifying a stock I860S for my I8A0S DME and MHD flasher basically thought I was going mad and stopped me loading it. If anyone has a I8AOS uk stock bin I would be grateful for the donation. Didn't notice the issue to begin with because the DME numbers are very similar. Doh"!

Is there an very noticable difference in performance when doing a backend flash (vs just JB4 alone) on cars with just FBO mods?

Not planning on going higher than basic FBO (waiting for my FMIC to arrive) at this stage and I'm sitting on the fence on whether I can be bothered to mess with all this DME US to Euro conversion ****e.

And knowing me, no doubt I will **** something up and end up with a BSOD car...

Man I miss the simpler times of tunning with my Skyline, wack in bleed valve + SAFC 2 signal bender, take it to tuner and pay some $$$ and drive away happy.

Maybe not, but it'll be healthier for your car. Better AFRs for various fuel types you may run, better timing, better fueling, better view of torque by your transmission.

Hi all, firstly this forum is awesome, so much good info, I have read through this whole thread and have a few questions if one of you would be so kind as to help . .
I have only had my 135i for a few weeks, its FBO (no meth) and I live in the UK. The previous owner said he just set the JB4 to map 5 and never changed it or did any logs/flashes, but that the car was remapped by the owner previous to him while it was stock.

I flashed the US pump gas back end flash using MHD a few days ago, car felt extremely fast up top, no codes, but stuttered and hesitated mid Rpm range.
I decided to go back to my original map until i changed my plugs/coils.

I have now changed my plugs and coils, but have since found this thread so i am unsure what to do.

Should i still try and use the US spec back end flash first, and see if i have issues?
Is there any euro guys running the US spec back ends and having no issues/are happy with it?
I am awaiting a USB extension arriving so I can do some logs, the one attached to my JB4 is very short.

Any help is much appreciated

Hey there. First of all and as Terry always says "we need some logs" so we shall wait for the cable and for some logs.

And I will need your OEM file to transfer over the US to your oem bin (EU spec)

And by the way that kind of file is in your DME? :/ if its not a backend, it should not be used with jb4 :/.. and if it is you should set your JB4 to 4/2 (menu 4 on speedometer, menu 2 RPM meter)

Thanks Eristoff, as soon as my cable arrives i will post some logs.
Yes, after doing much reading over the past few days i appreciate i should not be running a map along with JB4 if it is not a specific back end.

I have tried setting 4/2 and 4/3 and feel no noticeable difference. I have a p3cars boost gauge (i don't think its very accurate, well i hope not!) and always hit 21psi max in either setting. Never get chucked into map 4 so the gauge must be reading high.

It may not even have a map . . who knows if the original owner was telling the truth.
If i posted the back up of my DME i took before trying the US spec map would you be able to tell if it was stock??

Hi Eristoff,

Finally got my cable and did some logs. I have been playing with various settings all day and posting in another thread if you fancy reading it.

http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34011

Basically i am back where i started still not hitting my boost targets.
I have attached the first logs i took earlier today showing this.

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated

Also . . . after doing proper WOT pulls the car definitely runs better in setting 4/3, even though i may have an ecu flash.

I tried setting all my duty bias to zero on the advice of Terry, presumably to work better with the ecu flash i may or may not have, but it made the car run terribly.

I am keen to give the MHD back end flash another try, euro modified this time, the fact i am not hitting boost targets isn't good, but i'm excited to see what the car feels like when its dialled in because i am already impressed!!!
