Exclamation MFactory Helical LSD's - Lifetime Warranty, 30-Day Money Back Guarantee! - 06-27-2014, 10:27 AM

Hey guys,

now that we have more concrete details on our welded diff options, I thought that it would be a good time to start making up a pre-buy list

Terminology (As some people are still confused with all the terms)
- Pumpkin/Core/Carrier/Pig Snout: This is the entire unit, the part you see bolted up to your car, and contains everything
- Differential Unit/Diff: This is the main part inside your pumpkin that does all the traction magic. OEM is open differential. We are offering a limited slip differential
- Ring & Pinion/Final Drive/Crown & Pinion: This consists of the Ring Gear (which is welded on to your oem differential) and the Pinion Gear
- Rebuild: As it suggests, rather than you DIY or having another shop do it for you, we are offering our rebuild service if you send us your pumpkin

Fitments:
- 135i/335i MT Apr '07+ with 3.08 Final Drive
- 135i/335i DCT with 2.56 Final Drive
- 335d with 2.81 Final Drive

What is included:
- Brand New MFactory Helical LSD
- Modified and Reconditioned oem Final Drive (Ring & Pinion)
- New Ring Gear Bolts

Price: (MT)
1) Send us your oem Differential Unit first (NOT the entire pumpkin) - $1279.96 inc shipping to North America/Europe/Australia

or 2) We send you a pre-built Differential Unit (NOT the entire pumpkin) with modified ring & pinion first - $1779.96 inc shipping to North America/Europe/Australia. $500 is refundable after we receive your old Differential Unit + Pinion back.

Price: (DCT)
1) Send us your Differential Unit first (NOT the entire pumpkin) - $1319.96 inc shipping to North America/Europe/Australia

or 2) We send you a pre-built Differential Unit (NOT the entire pumpkin) with modified ring & pinion first - $1819.96 inc shipping to North America/Europe/Australia. $500 is refundable after we receive your old Differential Unit + Pinion back.

Rebuild Service: Not applicable to Europe/Australia
- Add $500 if you send us your entire pumpkin first, and we will rebuild it with the new LSD. Includes return shipping within the mainland US (+$100 for Canada).

e.g You send us your MT pumpkin. We will fully recondition your pumpkin and rebuild with the new LSD. Total Cost: $1779.96

- Additional $500 core exchange applies if we ship you a rebuilt pumpkin first (subject to availability). Refundable after we receive your old pumpkin back

e.g We ship you a fully reconditioned MT pumpkin with LSD first. Total Cost: $2279.96. After you install your new MT pumpkin, ship back your old pumpkin to us, and we will refund $500 to you

Oh dammmnnn. This is great and the prices look attractive too. I can't yet add myself to the list but before convincing the wife

What is the gear ratio of the unit? Any +/- impact to the DCT transmission itself?

Lastly, how hard is install / book calls for?

335i is 3.08, and the DCT is 2.56. These are the same ratios as the OEM Final Drives.

Install is as simple as removing your old diff and pinion, and installing the new diff and ring/pinion. You would need to shim and check backlash though, so best to get it installed professionally.

We don't have photos of the ring & pinions yet as they won't be ready till end of Aug (as mentioned above).

Add me to the MT list.

Is this an entire pumpkin replacement which would be the easiest or do we need to take the pumpkin apart?

If it is the entire punpkin, I though we don't need to check for backlash. ..

Added, thanks

If purchasing only the Helical LSD + Ring & Pinion, then yes, you would need to take your pumpkin apart to install it. This will require setting the backlash.

If you wish for us to rebuild your pumpkin for you ($500 rebuild charge), then we do all the work for you; all you need to do is bolt up the rebuilt pumpkin and you are ready to go.

It's a shame you do not have a presence here in the UK or I would be in for a MT slot. Let me know via PM if I am mistaken.

Even though you are in the UK, you can still add yourself to the pre-buy for the LSD + Ring & Pinion. Obviously we can't do the rebuild for you, but we do have several installers in the UK that can (or you could use your own preferred installer)

The pricing includes shipping to Europe also; it is not limited to North America.

100% in for the rebuilt pumpkin. Just to clarify, will I be charged the price of the lsd depending on how many people opt in and 500 core and 500 for install and you send me a pumpkin then I return the one on my car, or do I take mine out and send it to you and have to wait with no car until I receive mine back?

Do you have the MT or DCT? Yes, that is correct. Only if you send us your pumpkin first would you be with no car.

Where are these replacement ring gears/pinions coming from? Do you have a reference as to their build quality?

We are making the ring & pinions ourselves; it is what our company specialises in: http://www.teammfactory.com/company-profile

My experience around MFactory products has always been positive, I have seen many of their parts perform in the Honda Performance world and I can honestly say it is TOP NOTCH stuff...Ive seen their products work consistantly on cars with 300-900hp.I dont see the stuff for BMWs being any different.....At these prices saying anyone on that above list is lucky would be an understatement.

My question however is this: Will MFactory ever offer a solution for the early n54 6at cars? If so sign me up.

The early model AT cars use the 215 bolted diff, which we have in stock and ready to ship. PM me if you're interested

So if I understand correctly we can ship you our factory pumpkin and you rebuild it into a LSD with return shipping included?

What do you guys think about street pass\mountain pass driving with the Helical diff vs the Clutch diffs?
how would the helical stand up to drifts vs a clutch based diff?

my guess is the helical is good for some very spirited mountain pass driving, but clutch diffs for drifts?

am i wrong?

If it's for drifting, the 2.0way Plate type LSD is more suitable

i dont think i explained myself much.
i wasnt talking on strictly drifting, i meant tackling road turns, with some style
the open diff realy makes me work for this, and i have to be too aggressive on public roads to keep a well controlled drift, i was wondering if the helical can help me give it some more gas and not feeling like the car is going to fight me.
just aim into a turn and mash the throttle, take a drift out and go.

what happens now -
get into a turn, hit the gas, tail gets out, car wiggles and straightens out while im on the gas, i have to provoke it again to keep my desired angle to come out drifting.

lots of B.S, i know.

With the Helical, you will get more usable traction, yes.

My apologies for not being able to offer more advice on this subject as RWD/Drifting is not my strong point
