Default Long term reliability of the N54 engine - 10-10-2020, 09:36 AM

I'm considering picking up a used 335i or 135i. Now that's it's been around for 10 years, how does the reliability and maintenance of the N54 engine stack up as you get past 100k miles? My mom's 535i hasn't had any issues, but she barely drives it. The ones I'm looking at in the 50-70k mileage range. Also how does modding for increased boost affect the overall longevity? I'm not expecting to hear of outright failures, but for example with the 2.7T in the Audi S4, at some point between 90-120k miles you may need to replace the turbos, which requires pulling the whole engine which is a $$$ job.

So what I'm asking is, is it relatively smooth sailing and keeping up on routine maintenance, or are there milestones with major work and $$$ associated with them? routerlogin 192.168.l.l
