Default JB4 Freezes issue - 06-01-2021, 12:14 PM

BMW community,

I am writing you in the hopes you can help me track down an odd issue I am having with my JB4. The JB4 will sometimes be reset to map 0 after sitting for a few days and when I try to switch maps it starts to act up and freezes up my dash (while driving in some cases).I’ve attached an image of the dash and how the information panel stays frozen (sometimes the gauge needles are locked up as well). The only way I can clear it is if I activate the JB4 again (the down arrow and volume button) and then exit out of it. It seems to be most prevalent after it sits for a few days. I’ve checked continuity throughout the harness and it all checks out. D-sub pins are locked in place etc. My question is has anyone ran into issues with the board? I have a g5 board. I do have an MHD BEF but it runs fine even when the gauges are frozen. I know these e90s have issues with the fuse box as well but I’ll have to double check if mine was replaced. I’m not sure if the fuse box issue would cause the lock ups that I’m having with my dash however.

No codes. Only one is for the brake pad wear sensor.

Cheers and thank you for any advice!

Sounds like a CANbus issue, photo of the JB4 board itself? JB4 log?

Terry,

I’m glad you chimed in. Huge fan of your products but not active on forums since for the most part I can diagnose my own issues but alas the time has come for me to create an account to troubleshoot this issue. I ran into the issue yesterday while driving but this time only my RPM needle remained frozen while the rest of the cluster kept functioning as it should. I haven’t done a log since the issue arose because I am worried of the JB4 malfunctioning midway thru the pull. I haven’t gone WOT since the issue started. I’ll obtain a pic of the board as soon as possible. Is there a certain area you’d like a picture of or will a pic of the full board suffice?

Thanks but please take a better picture so we can see the dates on the tops of the chips.
